95 VX hatch, K20 swap project.
Since K series is pretty much the future, I figured it was time to begin development on an entire line of new products. Anyway, this thread isnt about the products its about the car
Bought the car for $250 with the passenger side shock tower about 10 inches from the throttle body. With my dads Kubota and an hour of yanking with a chain, I had the strut tower to within 1/16th of an inch of a stock civic.
Got it running, ran great with the stock VX motor until the first rain storm.
Hydrolocked it, Im assuming valve damage because the car drove into the shop under its own power(VERY LOUDLY, smokily).
It was going to be my winter bucket, but there really isnt any rust on the thing and thats very rare for Northern Michigan.
So I ordered up a K swap and here are some shots of what I got done in the first day
Throttle, Clutch, Shifter is all hooked up. Coolant lines are figured out, but not finished.
Wiring will be here in two weeks or so; Ill probably be using the AEM EMS 1070 as Im very familiar with the EMS units.
Ill be using the larger alternator pulley, nut/washer shims. It fits the budget nicely and works great.
Fuel rail, I probably will be using Hybrid Racing, maybe along with the fuel lines. I can build my own for cheaper so we will see.
Im not sure what Im going to do with Axles, Im in talks with Hybrid Racing right now but who knows whats going to happen. I do have the stock RSX axles but Im having a hard time coming up with Teg/Civic ends(getting them off the old shafts w/out breaking them).
Thats it so far! Plans for the car will entail daily driving to thrashing on road courses. It will more than likely end up Turbocharged, as I have a GT28R on the shelf that I just cant get rid of. Sure its only rated at around 300hp, but damn will this thing be a torque monster

Re: (mrbsponge)
Ill swap you bottom ends
no, Id like to be right around 300whp. The GT28R that I cant get rid of will be maxed out getting there and should do it at around 5psi with the k20a2
I may just keep it all motor as it is intended to be a daily driver when not being thrashed at the track.

yo.......i dont think your car trailer fit both cars..........haha
with brakes and suspension, both cars would be monsters......
i think the S might still beat it, but who knows! hopefully i'll be there to find out.
-adam, who couldnt believe how fast cody's s2000 is......and its stock minus a turbo.

Ill have the GF drive the hatch down, then trailer the S. The chances of BOTH of them having to be trailered back are fairly slim...
If thats the case, you know which car would stay at the track

Re: 95 VX hatch, K20 swap project. (spectacle)
I was just about to post up and update
Axles are in, I made a tool that wraps around the axle nut; while the axle is being held by a vice, you pound on the tool and the outter pops right off! The good thing is that I have about 15 extra outers to replace these ones with when they break(seem to be the first to go).
The complete Integra suspension is in, including the brakes. Ill get some Omnis or something later, budget is strapped.
Radiator is a stock S2000 unit, as I upgraded my S.
I welded a -6an fitting onto the stock fuel rail for a fuel feed, ran the return line to an external fuel pressure regulator, then to the return line. Just used high pressure rubber lines for all of it.
Header that I built over last week, late nights:
Still waiting on the wiring and EMS, its all ready other than that(or could be within one day).

Re: 95 VX hatch, K20 swap project. (Tinker219)
thats one cool looking header, reminds me of the prototype racing one for the k20 swap elise's. since i always forget what style benfits rpm range, it seems rather short compared to say a dtr. what will this one benfit? also i seen on ur site that u have turbo manifold on the upcoming for the k. care to shed light on the style of manifold this will be. any thing like the sci motorsport one. were it places the turbo above the tranny and the inlet facing the front. just curious i think that one seems like a neat design, but u know function over form. awesome job on the swap i cant wait to get my beast up and running.

Re: 95 VX hatch, K20 swap project. (duckmanEG)
I just looked at the prototype racing one, they arent exactly anything close
I took what I know about header design(rather limited, Ill admit) and incorporated it into this header.
The primaries start at 1.75", then flare to 1.875". Right before the collectors(4-2-1), it steps up again to 2". After the collectors, 2.25", then 2.5" outlet for the last collector into a 2.5-4.5" Cone, finally flaring back down to 3". Ount know, we will see. Im hoping the longer, tighter radius bends help with torque production, but at this point, its exactly that; a hope.
I just found that the cars COMPLETE passenger side-rear has been removed/replaced with another car...lol. So this is definately a designated track bitch. The wheel-well, half-way up the B, C pillar and half of the door sill has all been removed and very poorly reconstructed. The car is basically beginning to Rot, but it may be saved. Either way, a Cage is a definate MUST before I track the cars as Im afraid itll fall apart af the first significant G-force.
