2002 Honda Accord's Notorious Transmission
October of good ol' 14 I bought me a 2002 Honda Accord 4cyl with 166k on the Dash.
Little did I know, the transmissions in this model have a habit of premature failure.
I've read stories of people replacing the tranny, just for it to go out again. Most of these replacements cost them 2 - 3k which is terrifying.
My transmission started slipping and today it finally threw me the p1768 code. I'm not sure exactly what the ease is of fixing this, but I know it's transmission related, and this transmission is going to go out some day.
My civic went to the grave a few days ago when the timing belt snapped. I was planning to swap a b16 in to it, but I got the idea to instead swap another engine/tranny into my accord for when the day comes.
My question is; what alternatives do I have? I'm only 18, and quickly learning about cars. I'm not sure exactly how to do an engine swap, but I have all the required tools, and all the knowledge with a few Google searches. I've come across many detailed tutorials that pretty much baby you, and I'm confident I could get the job done.
Now, I don't want to fix this tranny just to have one fail again. I'm assuming I couldn't just swap a different model tranny in there. I'm guessing only certain model trannys fit with certain model engines.
What would be the best swap to do? I would like to spend around 2k, but depending on what needs done, I could probably extend my budget.
I appreciate all the feedback and thanks for taking the time to help a fella out.
