2000 EK Civic with a B18c4, where to go from here ?
Yo Guys
Im looking for some help with my car project, I work away so I get large chunks of time to work on the motor. I bought a 2000 EK Civic nice and cheap with minimal rusting and decent undercarriage. Im no car mechanic so I thought I would teach myself along the way. Before I came away last I managed to get the old motor out along with all of the brakes, PS, wiring etc. I then set out doing some research on which motor would be a good upgrade in power from the stock 1.4, after reading the forums I had the idea on a k20a2 which was soon ruled out as it was too much for a first job so I bought a B18c4. Ive seen a long list of mods than can be done to these EKs with B18c4's in them, for example the basics like a A/M intake and exhaust with stainless catback and back box with a 4-2-1 for decent low to mid range power, and a Skunk intake mani with a 70mm TB. Ive also seen some more complex modifications like the 'Poor Mans Type-R' which im still a bit fuzzy on.
My question I put out there is what are the basic improvements that can be done to see to some decent gains? I would appreciate a little description as to why you suggest what you suggest so I can continue to learn the trade.
Cheers for the help.

You are in UK, yes? The Tegiwa Toda copy is a great header for the money. Some tuner cams like Skunk2 sells with uprated valve springs. ITR ecu if you are staying obd2. Drive that for a while, it will be a lot of fun.

Thanks for the reply and the idea ill have a read up no the mani and into some cam shafts. Now with the valve springs would you say go for better retainers and valves also ?

Type r valves as they are lighter than stock b series valves, and can be had for cheap. Stock retainers will be just fine. No titanium retainers as they wear much faster than the oem ones.
