Default 2 phase LSVTEC

I've seen a bunch of threads simmering about building LS's, LS/VTECs etc all for the teggers on a budget like me. I was pretty set on building my LS head, but now I'm thinking longterm (ironically I think of vtec)...
Here the idea: Do a basic LS/VTEC setup for the summer, and then next winter, build the bottom end...

AKA This summer:

Used B16A head
New valvesprings, valveseals
Port the head, get a nice valvejob
OBD-I VTEC ECU
All necessary fittings
New Plug wires
ITR IM if head doesn't come equipped with an IM

Next summer:

Endyn high compression rollerwave pistons 0.5mm oversized
Honed cylinders
Eagle Rods
ARP Bolts
GSR block girdle
GSR Oil Pump
GSR Water Pump
GSR Timing Belt
Balance crank to 9000rpm
B16A/GSR Cable tranny

----------

This way next summer I will have new toys and some more power, and as long as I don't rev like a moron, I'll make some more power for the time being. Come winter, I rebuild the bottom end and then the following year will have a fully built engine.

I figure this way I can spend the same I had in mind on building my LS, get similar if not better results for the time being, and the next year I can build the rest of the engine. Why not do it all at once? $$$$ Why don't I save my money and wait 2 years? I'm IMPATIENT!!!! Let's hear it...

i think that would work wonders, thats pretty much my plan but i already have the b16 and since a local chop shop in my town sells b18a and b's for 2-400 its a worthwile thing.

Anyone here done what I've said or running a STOCK lsvtec setup? No one I talk to can really decide whether or not a the LS would be faster than a stock LSVTEC below 7500rpm (where the power cuts off anyway due to longer stroke as seen here .

Don't even do it if you're not going to dive right in from the start. Go all out or go home. Just save up and do it right the first time. It's better to be safe than sorry, and if you **** something up by not going all out at first you will be sorry

well running those ls pistons are not a good idea, especially if you have itr cams like you want. There won't be proper valve reliefs in them. and if you want to go ahead and swap pistons then you will need to take your block to a machine shop to get the block honed. Then if you want different rods later on, then you'll have to take the block back a second time.

I am only saying this because I have been researching this for about a year and a half now. I am currently building my own. It just has to be assembled now that I have everything in. So just save your money a little while longer.

i have ran both. i used a rather stock b16 head on my stock ls bottom with itr intake cam and itr intake manifold. i ran it up to 8k all the time, no problems. i then built another block on the side which i am currently using now. i have been running the built motor for almost a year now. only problem i have is with the old b16 head, the valve guides are worn. i checked compression the other day, 250 across.

Well I still really can't decide. Only reason I'm thinking of sticking to LS is just I don't want to have a possible total loss down the line... Any last words??
