Default 1st gen integra...

Can someone tell me what motor comes in a 1st gen integra? I'm getting confusing info in this one.... is it the d16a1? I know its twin-cam, non-vtec

I picked up a 89 standard hatch for 200 bucks, and I can get a 1stgen integra for $100... I was thinking of swapping the motor over.... Is it bolt-in? What about wiring?

yes, it is the d16a1. what year integ. is it? 86-87 won't work. 88-89 will. you would have to convert your car from dual point fuel injec. to multi point. Your car now makes about 70hp, the integra motor makes some where around 115-118. Alot of people say it isn't worth. thats up to you. for a little bit more money($500-600) you could get a ZC with 135-137hp.

What's the difference between the 85-87 and the 88-89 that would make it not work?

If I could get it to work, it would be a really cheap swap (100 bucks for the entire donor car), and it's still 45+ more hp than I have now.

I'm confused as to what your 89 std hatch is.
Did you buy a 89 CIVIC std hatch? or a 89 Integra?

if you bought an 89 civic....yer ASSED out. The D16A1 will NOT bolt into that car at all. In fact, none of the US 86-89 D16A1 engines will bolt into an EF chassis (EF=88-91 civic/crx chassis). You need to get an 89+ JDM DOHC ZC engine (black 8-bolt valve cover), which is specifically designed and will bolt into an EF chassis; and was not offered in the US at all.

The JDM ZC and US/D16A1 engines, internally are almost identical....some minor changes are higher compression pistons, cam lobe changes, intake manifold changes, and wiring/ecu changes.

However, if you have an 89 Integra, you CAN use the D16A1 engine you bought for $100. You would just need to swap all of the 89 integra's ignition parts over to the $100 D16A1 engine.

Sorry for the confusion... I bought the EF chassis, and I was inquiring about putting the motor from the integra into it. I was wondering if in fact the d16a1 is what comes in the integra.

Will what comes in that integra bolt into my ef chassis?

Kat hit the nail on the head.

The 1986-1989 Integra motors fit much more easily in the 1985-1987 CR-X Si and 1986-1987 Civic Si hatches.

nothing US-side as far as bolt-in w/oem mounts goes will bolt in from any year US integra. The only DOHC motor that will bolt-in, like i said, is a JDM DOHC ZC engine.

You can go B-series, but you'll have to buy a engine mount kit (HASport billet mount recomended).
