you cant use your harness, you need a harness from a 99 and up car. I would guess 99-00SI. that is what I will be using for my 00-ITR swap into my 96.

Well, you can use your harness, but you are gonna have to change ecu plugs etc.

There isn't any information on the net for putting 99up motors into 96-98 cars that I have seen.

You can not use the '99-'00 Civic engine harness in a '96-'98 Civic without switching the entire dash harness as well.

In this case I would toss the '00 GS-R ECU due to the fact that it has an immobilizer and its plug style is slightly different. Get a '96-'99 GS-R ECU and it will plug right in.

you can use the 99 harness you just gotta rewire the green plug..if you dont rewire the ecu your Tach, speed and reverse lights wont work..The engine harness is plug an play.

Besides the fact he will be missing the third ecu plug. He needs either a 96-98 ex harness or use his stock harness.

It doesnt matter what year the motor is, he could put a first gen b16a into a 99 hatch, run the si harness with obd2 accessories and use a p28. It doesnt matter. Using his stock harness or an ex harness from the same year is the only choice he has. Either way, he will need to do some wiring.

EEK,

Have you ever used a '99-'00 Civic engine harness in a '96-'98 Civic with a DOHC VTEC B-series swap? I am curious on how you got it to work by only rewiring the green plug.

Im using the99 si engine harness and ecu..the third plug in the 99 ecu is for automatic cars its not needed by manual cars..the green plug plugs up but my tach and speed an reverse lights didnt work..after rewiring the plug it all works

what other ecu's would work properly in this situation?

i plan on keeping it OBD2 for the meanwhile, until i have enough money to purchase a harness.

can someone clear this up for me...

a 96-99 gsr will plug in, but a 2000 won't work because the plugs are different and there is an immobilizer on it? is that right? thanks again

EEK,

The reason I asked that question is due to the fact that the '99-'00 Civic Si engine harness only has the B and C plug on it. The '96-'98 Civic engine harnesses have the A, B, and D plugs on it.

Also, the '96-'98 manual Civic ECUs use plugs A, C, and D and the '99-'00 manual Civic ECUs use A, B, and C plugs.

If you use a '99-'00 Civic Si engine harness in a '96-'96 EK the ECU plug A will not be present this is due to the fact that the '99-'00 Civics have the ECU plug A incorporated into the interior car harness.

How did you wire up ECU plug A in your '96 EK?

Maybe there is something that I am missing here.

The only plug im using out of the 96 is the interior harness plug, everything else is from the 99 Si

The best bet for you is to sell the eecu n wire harness, wire up your stock harness
to the motor, use's your stock ecu and wire up vtec

WTF are you talking about? You make no sense. *Cheapest solution...stock civic harness and 96-98 gsr ecu. Problem solved.

My bad dude he still would have to sell his ecu since its a 99 am I right or wrong and he still will have to wire up vtec since the stock engine wire harness does not have vtec wires...sounds like the same thing I said smart guy..I just heard you can use the stock ecu and harness and all you have to do is wire up vtec..if you read the posts above you would see the motor im using and ecu..I was just tryin to get him some cash buy telling him to sell the gsr ecu and wire harness since he wont need it duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Sounds like you need to clarify what you are saying. What I got out of what you were saying was, "Use the stock civic harness and stock civic ecu." Clarify what you are trying to say. Some people are not as smart as you, and what is common sense to you is jibber jabber to someone else.

Just use a 96-98 GSR ECU and your stock engines harness. What wires you need to add depends on the model EK you have.

I was going to try and use a 99 Si harness in my 97 Hx....I think it would be possible by rewiring the green connector and adding a different ecu plug, and rewiring all the plugs as well, but it would be too big of a pain, and I couldn't find enough information on the green plugs wires. Whew...so don't go that route!
