what could this be??
I got a check engine light on 01 s2, with a somewhat of a rough idle, like i can upgraded cams. I did rev it out the other day up to limiter, did i slip the timing belt or bend a valve, any ideal would help, it goes to the dealer ship tomorrow. thanks guys

Please avoid posting hearsay guesses. There never was an issue about the spark plugs half-ing themselves and dropping into the cylinders. It was more of an issue with them backing out.

I really cannot tell what you did or didn't do by what you said. Let me take a stab at it - first of all, reving it to the rev limiter doesn't do anything bad at all. You can hold it there for quite a while if you want. No harm done. What will bend the valves is if you have it up ~9k and then mis-shift, shifting it into a lower gear, causing the revs to jump well above 10K rpms. The rev limiter only does that, it only limits the revs. It does not prevent mechanical issues caused by the driver who mis-shifts into the wrong gear. It will only limit the revs within a given year.
A check engine light can be minor or major. Sometimes it can be a fluke and you just need to reset the fuse - NOT PULLING THE BATTERY TERMINAL! and then see if it trips again. Things that can trip it would be something serious with the motor itself, or something minor such as the fuel cap isn't on tight enough.
My suggestion would be to reset it and trip it again. If it doesn't come back, no big deal. But if it does, get it to the dealer to check out.

very nice explenation.... i understand better now about the rev limiter and if harm will be done if i pass 9k while shifting.....
