Weird Problem with an Alpine head unit
So I bought my 05 s2k about 2 months ago. It was all stock except for an Alpine head unit. All was fine until about a week after, I noticed that the unit would switch from cd to radio out of nowhere. It constantly did this so I bought a new Alpine head unit and replaced it.
Same thing still occurs. Another issue I had was that sometimes after I start the car, the deck won't power on until about 5-10 minutes after the car has been on.
I know it has something to do with the powering of the unit but has anyone ever heard of this problem?
The car came with the unit that connects to the deck so I can use the factory radio controls on the left side of the steering wheel. I disconnected it to test if that was what was causing the problem. It wasn't.
Now I have a brand new Alpine deck so I know its not the head unit.
Anyone have an idea or know how I can properly fix this?
Thanks in advance.

Just because the headunit is new doesn't mean you didn't get a bogus one that could have some flaws in it. Since it's new I would take it back and get it replaced. Try the second one, if the same thing occurs then you know it's not the headunit. It might be in the wiring. I would run through it and see if there's any wires that are exposed.
i wouldnt open up the case before taking it back to the place where you got it. if they can just replace it as a warranty issue then do that but if not...crack her open and get dirty

a problem like that isn't going to be a wiring problem. I'd say it's the steering wheel control modual. Since you replaced the head unit I'd eliminate that as a problem too. Thats to random of a problem to get two units in a row. I'd return the one you got just to have a fresh one and remove the steering wheel controls and rewire that.

yeah i thought it was the steering wheel controls but I disconnected that unit from the deck and the problem still occurs.
So I've narrowed the problem down. Its not the head unit, nor the steering controls.
