ive noticed recently that my motor has been making a "clack" noise. its not rod knock..and its pretty quiet. i was thinking maybe it was the valves. are there any parts of the s that are notorious for making unwanted noise but are rather simple fixes? ty guys

its not a rattle...it definately sounds engine related...nothing on the exterior of the engine. ill try to get a sound clip for u guys today. gotta wait for my gf to get off school so i can use her camera
Where it's coming from is important too. Did you actually listen under the hood or did you hear the noise sitting in the cabin?

How many miles does your S have.. You're supposed to have your vavle clearance inspected about every 75k miles. Check if it goes away wen you step on the clutch. If it does then you just need to service your clutch. If not it might be the valve clearance or the belt tensioner pulley that needs some lube.

no, manual said 105k, but 14 out of 16 of mine needed adjustment at 90k
since i am doing it myself i check it every 10k, plus you can spot a broken retainer before it's toast you motor

well he mentioned that it may just need lube. im just gunna shut up till i get that video..then we can have a nice debate with something to back up the claims.

When was the last time the oil was changed? And or low on oil? Is what normally is the problem, but like every one else says you got to hear it before you can diagnose it. good luck!
Watch the tensioner, see if the sound happens when the tensioner pulley moves. Try reving the engine from the throttle body and that should make the pulley move back n forth a little
