use of trunk space
well i've been posting for a couple days now and i guess i haven't introduced myself. names Ron, from md area, and i'm probably going to purchasing a used s within the next month. been doing a lot of research and what not and just coming up with my own future vision of my car and since i have a little bit of knowledge in computers and audio i was just getting a feel for what you guys think to do with trunk space. originally i thought putting subs in the trunk would be too much weight seeing how enclosures and stuff can run like 100 lbs, but i just thought up and idea that would be pretty nice. let me know what you think. i plan on getting the aem ems, and since i don't even have a laptop to program it with but i have a ton of desktops laying around the house, i was thinking instead of buying a laptop, to custom fabricate an acrylic box inside the trunk flush with the carpet somewhere, put all the computer internals, then run the cable to the ems. on top of that, get an indash screen and connect the computer to that. they have a gyration mouse you can get also that works with the movements of your wrist so you can move the mouse in air or on a surface. then i was thinking sub enclosures are pretty heavy and from what i've heard from you guys, the audio system in the s isn't all that. so i was thinking getting like a 10" sub and instead of doing a mdf enclosure, just do a custom fiberglass enclosure which would be much lighter and nicer. then paint it or carpet it however you want, or remove all the interior carpet and paint the whole trunk space. kinda hard to work with the fiberglass resin but then again we are do it yourselfers. i use to work at circuit city and still have friends there so i can get accomodations on almost all the stuff factory direct. got some computers laying around i could take apart easy so that wouldn't cost much. so basically i have the head unit, a sub, an amp, some wiring, and acrylic to buy. in the future could always throw a ps2 or xbox or whatever game system they release and have that connected in too. sounds a little rice, but thought it's a good use of trunk space if done right. what do you guys think? any other ideas?
Too much work, If you really want the Ems it would be way easier to just get a laptop. Also comp get outdated like daily so i would hate to have this outdated pos in the trunk, ya know what I mean? Plus if you ever wanted to track the car, i dont think you'd fair too well on the track, unless you are more into show. I can barely fit a duffle bag in my trunk so you will be dealing with a limited space. It is not my cup of tea but if you do it ill give you credit and would love to see pics.

nah not a show car, just something that i haven't seen. i got a **** load of computer parts laying around so that's not the big deal, really the only expensive part would be the in dash screen and i could get that off accomadations from alpine anyways for pretty cheap. if i went for a laptop it would be even more expensive because a cheap laptop would run me like $600 whereas i already have computers i could strip and use for parts. sub enclosure would be a lot of work if i went fiberglass, it would look hot tho when it was done. mdf is pretty heavy stuff and i've done sub enclosures before and if you want something nice you would use 1" and even a sub box for 1 sub would probably be 40 lbs plus the weight of the sub and amp. i might do the computer thing just to do it, the sub box i'm having second thoughts on just because i don't want to add weight. i saw a setup where they removed the spare tire, made a fiberglass enclosure, carpeted over that, and then made a brace to put the spare tire on top of the subs. i thought that would sound pretty nasty, rattle a whole lot, and probably would damage the subs. if this was a show car and i had a secondary car to drive around i would just take the spare tire out completely but that's probably not too good of an idea since i go back and forth between my house and college a lot. another s i saw somewhere had the subs hanging from the top of the inside of the trunk with a custom fiberglass enclosure, had the amps and eq in front of that... but that's a lot of weight too... and then two nitrous bottles one on each wheel well. by the time that i get rid of this car (hopefully won't be for a very long time) it will be mostly performance but a little bit of bling to show off as well. i would do the xbox or ps2, but then again it's kinda a waste, when i'm in my car i'd be driving, not playing video games, if anything it would be for my passenger and that would be a hot chick that doesn't play video games... a hot chick that did play video games is one of kind tho i suppose
