Default Ultimate S2000

Hello, I am considering getting an S2000, the other cars I am looking heavily into are the Nissan 350Z and an AudiTT 225q.

Basically I want something with about 500ish horspower.. Money is not really an issue. Please dont say well just get a porsche carerra GT... I am doing this not to just buy a fast car but to have the fun and joy of building one up from the ground and having some fun along the way. What would need to be done to get to that amount of power and still maintain driveability. What is the best way to get to that amount of power? Turbo, supercharger or N/A. Like I said money is not really an issue. I am more worried about driveability and quality. I also plan on racing it on the track, but using it as my daily driver as well possibly. The Turbo system that I read about said it would cost about 11k for 500+ horspower it looks like that is what im gonna go ahead and do. Unless there is a cheaper and or better quality way to get there. Also Once that amount of power is in the car what needs to be done to the suspension, brakes etc..

What wheel companies make the highest quality wheels (volk bbs etc etc)? and would lets say nitto tires be ok?

What are the best brands for suspension, coilover kits, strut bars etc?

What are the best Brakes, need big ones ?

What are the best exhuast systems?

What else needs to be done for the S2000 when it has that much horsepower?

If I went with the Turbo the 515 ish horsepower one. What else could be done to the engine to get more gains and if anything else can be done would it hurt the quality or longevity of the car in any way? thanks

Am I forgetting anything? please let me know.

Also the Bodykit that I have decided on is the backyard special one. Is it a high quality kit? or not?
Basically if you were going to make the ULTIMATE S2000 what in gods name would you do and why! Please list company names so I can do research and figure out how much it would cost me. Basically I am looking for a race car and whichever one of the 3, s2k, 350z, or the TT is cheapest to turn it into a 500+ hp beast then thats the one im going with. But currently I am partial to the S2k so far.

I know I am asking a lot of questions in one post but hey I only get 5 posts a day

350z would be the cheapest to get to 500bhp. Audi TT's are awful, they are simply a VW golf. As you might expect, being on an S2000 forum(!), go with the S!

Well, you've got to go look at the amuse carbon components. Remove your folding top, and replace with carbon roof, along with boot, and bonnet. Amuse also do a super lightweight titanium exhaust, and titanium wheels.
As for suspension....so much choice! Mugen NZ, Tein RS, buddy club P1, Apex N1 etc etc. Front and read strut bars titanium, and the comptech X-brace. Cusco front and rear sway bars. Infact, i'm stopping there because there is soooo much. Check out http://www.takakaira.com/

agreed...

if you want that kinda power out of a car, get a domestic. any 98+ f-body (camaro, firebird) w/ a ls1 in it will easily be able to to hit 500 hp...not super charged or turbocharged, but all motor. if not, look @ mustangs, those are dirt cheap as well. Since it sounds like you got some cash to spend, look into getting a late model vette, those can be had for as low as 25k now....w/ low miles.

If you're looking for other cars in that price range, i'd say take a look @ some early models nsx's (with the c30 motor). but honestly, the s2k isn't the car to do that kinda stuff w/. i'd rather get a s13 or s14, throw in an sr20 (yes, i know...quite cliche` but it works) and you can easily make your 500 hp goal.

so whats wrong with a 500 hp s2k?
They do exist.
And I don't want any other cars. Besides its going to be a fun project. I really think I am going to go with the s2k, its always been of favorite of mine since they came out. I used to idolize it before I knew very much about cars and I still do... Its sort of a dream car to have one and to have a fast one. Besides no one would expect whats comming to them when they see me on the track.

does anyone have any pertinent advice?
I am asking a sort of hypothetical question here .. IF I were to do these things to the s2k what would I need to do to make it work. Besides it doesnt have to be quite 500 I just know that thats how much the turbo kit will make.

Thanks for the advice and link Hypersonik.

Also anyone know about Back Yard Special and the quality of thier body kits?

This is the first car forum ive gone to where they suggest getting other cars...

If you where to get a kit for the car then I would suggest the GP Sports kit for the car, best looking kit for the s2. i think that it can be done, a 500+ HP s2. They say that it cannot be daily driven but to me I think that, that is not true. I use to drive a 310 WHP civic 56 miles to and from work with no problems. I think with the S it will be a lot fun with that kinda a power good luck with your project. I you decide to do it !

I checked out that link.
It looks like for the s2k I can get front and rear strut bars And cusco makes some Stabilizers for the s2k im assuming those are the sway bars. Looks like I can get those plus the comptech X brace and then a coilover kit and I would be set. What else needs to be done for a good solid suspension. I am going to need it for the power I am gonna put into this baby

what company makes the best suspensions? I would like to get an entire suspension set up from the same place. to keep everything working well together I try not to use too many different companies. Cusco looks like a good company, are thier products of high quality? Also Amuse looks like a very high quality company by just looking at thier prices.

One thing I am running into and don't know if I'll need. What are hard bush kits or hard bush tool. It has something to do with the suspension but what exactly do they do and can they be used in combination with every thing else.

Gratefuly

CUSCO sub frame
CUSCO F. brace
Susension whould have to go TEIN RA or RS. I also heard that the AMUSE/BELSTEIN suspension set up was also good for the S.

As for the Hard bushings I would say nay for now, It will give lyou less roll in the chassie but the ones on there now should be fine !

The full race turbo setup that puts out 510 whp is on a daily driven S2000 so it can be done. What you should do is search for a vehicle that has a blown motor if possible. you could get a great deal on it and then build the engine the way you need it. Also you would need to get custom made CV joints and an extremely strong rearend. I would bet you would have to spend upwards of 7K just on the rearend etc of the car. If you're serious about it good luck, if it's a dream it's a good dream to have

Do body kits help in performance at all?
As in do they help with handling or with wind resistance etc? I can see how a spoiler might be useful but are body kits technically an use at all?
If they are necesarry what should I go for in terms of quality and actual usefulness at reducing wind resistance. Or are they all about the same?

Also, could I just get a hard top to only put on when I go out to race? And just keep the normal top on it for when im just using it as my daily driver. Usually I have a couple days before track days to get the car ready. Is it very hard to keep all the parts and just switch it out or is it a more permanent deal?

So far my total get up is looking to be about 20k give or take. Would be cool to have no body kit and be a sort of sleeper Besides I like how stock S2000's look.

So far this is what I am looking at...
Cusco strut and sway bars and a Tein RA coilover set up (will I need more than this? If so who can I contact about finding out how to get the rear end of the s2k in proper condition for the turbo?)
Amuse brake conversion
Full-Race Turbo and other engine tuning to handle it.(including exhuast and intercooler etc)
Mugen CF Hardtop (for the track)
Mugen CF Wing
Volk Wheels
Anything else is just gravy .. or am i missing something important ?

body kits can help with performance depending on wether or not it was designed in a wind tunnel. the Amuse R1 front bumper was designed with aerodynamics in mind. im not sure how much of a difference it makes though. as you should know, poly urethane is flexible, light and fairly dent resistant, carbon fibre is stiff, expensive and sexy . im not sure how difficult it would be to swap bumpers etc before a track day, but im sure its not that time consuming.
as far as your motor, like someone else said earlier, Full-Race has a turbo s2000 making 510 WHP on 93 octane. they claim that the owner drives it 7 days a week.
if you want to run with no body kit, i would suggest an OEM lip or the Amuse R1 front bumper, it looks fairly stock.

in my opinion Tein isnt the greatest for track. if you are willing to sacrafice ride quality id go with the Amuse/Bilstein setup. a buddy of mine had those on his S and it was simply amazing. he said it was a bit rough for the street but worked like a dream on the track. Cusco all the way

i hope this helps. if you want a little more info on the Amuse/Bilstein setup Honda Tuning Magazine did an article on it a few months back. I also rode in the car in the article. like i said earlier the ride is a little rough, but man does that car turn like its on rails.

good luck with the project
oh i forgot to mention, i read in a magazine (i believe it was honda tuning) that the Moon Craft hardtop for the s2000, added i think (dont quote me now ) 10 MPH to the top speed of the car. but the hardtop looks waaay crazy.

i think that car just has a Comptech diff cover and some 4.44 gears. im not sure though.

I heard talk about it having an aftermarket diff as well as cover.

Blair Racing, I think you should try to locate the owner of this vehicle https://honda-tech.com/zero...age=1
on S2KI.com (I believe that's where he's at). He should be a great resource for your build up.

As far as your question on body kits...I would definitely add a front spoiler if you put a mugen wing on the back. If you think about it from a physics standpoint the more down force you put on the rear of the car the more lift you create in the front. To counter balance this you will need a front spoiler designed to give good down force. You may also look into front and rear air diffusers...

350z would be easier to get to 500hp.. but being and s2k owner i'd vote for the s2k... well there is a 500+hp s2k that lives somewhat in my area. hes the one with the black s2k that you've seen in a couple of magazines, his motor can actually hold up to 30psi...which is crazy... .. but it can be done... he's done a lot to it tho. also Inline-Pro in my area (Springfield VA) has also produced a turbo kit for the s2k... stage 1 does about 350+ hp. and stage 2 does close to and around 500hp.. and it'll cost you around 6k to 7k... but then again you'd want to get an aem ems, new clutch and the list goes on..... but good luck.. keep us updated...

Yeah, the whole idea of building the motor. The stock block won't see 500hp for long. Might make it through one dyno pass.

You need to sleeve the block, get new rods, pistons, all forged internals. Look into the Alaniz head build also. I've only heard good things about it on an FI S.

Maybe he should go JDM with it and stay NA and make an incredible 220whp???

Shut up.

Buy the S, it's a much more fun car to drive due to the lighter weight and the quicker steering response. I don't like the Z due to the fact of it feeling heavy to me. TT= not much of an issue even talking about that thing.

Well the engine parts are a no brainer, I include that with getting the turbo seeing as how I would redo the engine for the turbo anyways. So far things are looking good, now I just need to find an s2k. The idea about finding one with a blown out engine is really good. I also am definatley going to be contacting that guy with the turbo to get the real info on what I need to get done.

By the looks of things I might be able to get started on this project within a few months, or possibly I might wait until spring time/ next summer when I have more time off.

Anyone know if a hard top can be put on and off pretty easily.. I really would only want to have to put one on for racing.. Thank you.

Anyways thanks a lot for all of your support and help.

this is true, i talked with Geoff from Full-Race and he said with tuning you could turn about 300-350 WHP on a stock bottom end s2k.

You could always go down the other route and get as much weight out of the car as you can. then up the bhp to a more usable number

IE 1200Kg / 1000 = 1.2

240 / 1.2 = 200 BPH per Tonne

Or

1200/1000 = 1.2

500/1.2 = 416 bhp per tonne

So if you could get the weight down to 1000kg then you only need a extra 176 bhp to have the same power

haha. you're joking right? there have been some VERY well built TT's out there pushing well over 400 horses AND quattro. don't count them out, EVER.

oh and i can promise you I have been around more golfs running faster et's AND lap times than i have even seen s2k's posted on this forum.

don't get me wrong, I want an S2k...but don't knock VW/Audi. my roots lie deep there.

Yes, after the inital instalation you can remove/puy on the HT in less than 1 min.

Oh I know this, just I wouldn't trust them with too much power. Stock sleeves need to be replaced anyway, they aren't built with high boost in mind.

I hope by next summer to make around 350whp on the stock bottom end. A full motor build just isn't in my budget any time soon. Like everyone who actually boosts their S's, it's all in the engine management.

making the s2k into a 500hp machine is an awesome idea...for a company like blitz. if u really dont know what your doing, then a 500hp car can kill u. just because u have lots of money doesnt mean u can manage and build a 500hp car (any car) i'd read up on it a lot b4 i started to mess with the engine. even so, i'd suggest driving a stock s2k before hand.
