Transmission issue.
Yes, I am another planning-to-buy S2K guy.
I am doing my research before I decided on the year, I have heard that AP1 has issue with the transmission, namely gear grinding (which I found it hard to believe with Honda transmission), just want to see if you guys have experience with this issue. If it's true, what's the cause of this and is it just better off to stick with AP2. (actually is there any difference with the AP1 and AP2 transmission)
I search both HT and S2Ki and didn't come up much with it.
thanks.

Get an 04-05. Best ever.
Tranny problems on older models are mainly the victims of misuse, as with the axles, rear end, and other drivetrain items. Test drive a couple.

ii had an 02 and my second gear was almost toast and i only had 23k miles on it. now i have an 04 and personally i like it much better, smoother shifting more usable rpm range.

Is there any different b/w AP1 and AP2? Is the AP2 gears have been re-enforced, or is it just common to have transmission issue with AP1?

you may also be talking about the clutch buzz issue with the ap1's. ive never personally heard it before, but an aftermarket clutch solves the problem. and the issue with grinding, that really all depends on who owned the car before and how they drove the car. if someone grinds gears too much in any car it will leave a bad sinchros. i have 70k on my s2k stock clutch and tranny is still flawless. just test drive before you buy it.

Re: Transmission issue. (Nuts)
so much wrong info here.
there's some high mileage ap2 getting buzz too, the oem replacement/upgrade for ap1 will get buzz. they never seems to get rid of it completely.
i have the buzz on my 100k ap1 on second set of clutches, i got used to it
honda's gear box's perfect, ask any K series guys and they will convert you otherwise.
some people have problem with 1 to 2 shift for ap1, i never have anything on mine(100K)

carbon syncro, syncromesh is a juice
notice the lower gears ratio change on teh ap2, which makes the car felt easier to drive on local than ap1, more so than the .2 bump in displacement

Might not be a bad idea to just use AP2 trans...after all, it is better.

Re: Transmission issue. (ntensehonda)
I bought (3 weeks ago) an 03 w/ 40k miles and it definately has 2nd/3rd gear issues. Not grinding, but kind of scraping going in to gear. I also drove an 06 and fwiw that tranny was amazing. I've never felt a transmission shift so smoothly before.
So your asking why I bought the 03 right? well, it was 11k cheaper even with a 4 yr/48k mile warranty... hopefully I'll have a new tranny by summer courtesy of the dealership

are you being sarcastic or serious? Regardless its when you shift ...you keep your foot on the gas while shifting/clutching. This doesnt let the rpms drop.... but it does sort of mess up the trannies.
