Squeaks and Noises
Well I know that the S has squeaks and noises, but Im curious if this is normal.
The exhaust tends to ping a lot more than any other cars I own. I mean the ping noise I understand is normal at times, but it's pinging a lot. Not sure if that makes sense. Im only asking this because I smell the exhaust often when I open my trunk.
I also hear this sound like something is loose coming from the passenger rear. This was noticed after I installed Espelir's .. not sure if one has to do with another. Im guessing maybe it could be the spare tire area? I cant duplicate it without driving over bumps.
Are these normal?

I don't have those noises but I have my own. Something from behind the seats squeaking. Maybe the top against something. I have '02 clutch buzz. I have alot of transmission noise actually. But other than that, not much to speak of here.
For the one from the rear passenger side. Check the spare tire area, the thing you screw to hold the spare down. You might have it set up wrong or might not be tight enough.
Other squeaks are usually from the soft top. You can get some Shin-Etsu grease and apply it on various areas of the top, sometimes it'll help a little. Also check your strikers. There's also an annoying sound from the seatbelt (one rubbing on the leather, and on the passenger side it bouncing off the side making plastic to plastic contact).

i get a rattling noise from behind me to the right, at times i think its my exhaust, all hangers are in place so i start wondering if it might be something in my suspension, Im pulling it out this weekend to make sure, hopefully i can see whats wrong. i think the spring might not be sitting on the perch correctly.

Nathan, check the passenger side strut tower. I'm willing to bet $5 someone forgot a nut in the pocket of that passenger rear suspension, if it's NOT the spare tire lock.
The pinging is somewhat normal, if you only notice it after shutting off the motor. The aluminum head/block doesnt' cool down or contract(expand) at the same rate as steel parts, therefore creating "squeaks" and "pings' when metals cool down at different rates. As mentioned, this should only happen after shutting off the car. To make it simple..
"Exhaust and exhaust manifold are STEEL, mated to an ALUMINUM block and head."

So is this "hiiiiii" noise I hear from my rears when I brake semi-hard normal?
I know it isn't brake dust...
I thought it could be some of the rear clips that I could just bend back. I haven't really taken the wheels off to inspect. Just wondering...
I have a hard top and I get the annoying "latch" noise. I also have this rattle inside my driver side door. Seems to be coming from the speaker area.
I'm getting used to it. Not as bad as when I had my DC2
