Go with a hard top if you can find one, if not go with a aftermarket (fabric!) soft top option. The OEM Soft tops are proven not to last through the rigors of support arm wear and tear over time.

New S2000 owner but the car was in the family since new and I have driven it occasionally since 2000. I recall the soft top rattling since new and it is really annoying me now that I drive this car pretty much daily. The rattle is worse than I recall new and may improve with a needed soft top replacement but I was wondering if an OEM hard top cuts down on the outside noise, and if it rattles at all. Similarly, I am wondering about a fiberglass OEM style hardtop. Getting rid of the rattles would be great, outside noise even better, but it's a fairly big investment. I do like the look better, I don't care about the top being down, but I just cannot find if it makes much of an improvement with noise. Just curious if people felt it made an improvement because the car is actually much more quiet and solid feeling with the top down, and to my recollection, that has been the case when this car had 100 miles on it, now it has 150,000 and is worse. No other squeaks or rattles so if I could address that with a hard top, my willingness to consider the cost is much greater. I do want a glass rear window if I go aftermarket but prefer OEM greatly as the car is 100% stock, even replacement parts are all OEM, all service was done by Honda.

Rattle is 99% front latches, grease the entire latch assembly, pull the soft top strikers off and place a washer between them and the body, this will allow the soft top to pull down harder into the seal. If it still rattles, remove the latches and oval out the 2 holes where it bolts up. Reinstall with a star lock washer and pull the latches back, towards the cabin before tightening. This will really add tension and pull the top down. Aftermarket hardtops will fit poorly and almost always make
more noise. Even the OEM top requires a lot of the above mentioned. My aftermarket top is quieter than any OEM top I’ve ridden with, it’s all about tension.

I have a hardtop and have NEVER regretted getting it. It reduces road noise significantly and makes long drives so much more enjoyable.

Don't be dellusioned by those who say it looks like a Miata (it DOESN'T) or those who say you have to have a weird-assed aftermarket hardtop. The standard hardtop is CLASSIC and will bring more in resale - if you ever come to that.
