Default simple nsx question

I looked at Acura's site, and it doesn't mention that the engine makes use of the i-VTEC technology. Does anyone know the answer to this?

Short answer: it doesn't.

The current NSX has the same ole' VTEC system as before. Although the next version of it will almost assuredly use i-VTEC.

well i guess my question is directed as "Why not?" They redesign the body, couldn't they have found the time to develop an i-VTEC system for their flagship sports car?!

Also, I guess my question extends to S2000's as well. . . hmm I guess i just don't understand Hondas . . . .

They didn't really redesign the body of the new NSX - they just restyled the headlights and added HID's. As for the S2000's, they'd probably have to redesign the entire engine to use the i-VTEC technology, so maybe they will on the next generation of S2000's. I can guess the same for the NSX.

However, having been in an i-VTEC powered car (RSX), I have to say that I like the original VTEC system better. You get more of a "kick" when crossover occurs, at least in the S2000, and probably even moreso in the NSX.

the reason you feel the "kick" is bc there is no torque under vtec. the larger displacment of the ivtec motors produce more hp and much more torque. that is why the "kick" is not as noticeable in with ivtec.

No torque? I didn't think that was possible. What larger displacement? The F20C is a 2.0 liter engine - the same displacement as the RSX Type-S. Much more horsepower? The RSX Type-S produces 200 crank HP, while the S2000 produces 240 crank HP. Much more torque? The RSX Type-S produces 142 ft-lbs of torque, while the S2000 produces 153 ft-lbs. I use the RSX Type-S as an example because it's the most comparable car (with an i-VTEC motor) to the S2000. You'll probably mention the RSX Type-R now - it still doesn't produce as much, or should i say "much more," horsepower or torque than the S2000 does. Don't get me wrong, I think i-VTEC is great technology, but based on what I've experienced, I prefer VTEC for now.

The i stands for 'infinitely' or is it 'intelligent' as it is more efficent by using variable timing control and so delivers more even torque/effiency through the rpm range than the old system which relied mainly on the cam profile change only so that the kick does not 'appear' as hard in the new system but is just as effective.

uhh no torque meaning lack of. I think having variable valve timing is nice, having it adjusting throught the revs is better. Its not tuner friendly now, since its a bit difficult for the tuners to figure out how to use it. Sure an RSX owner can get a VTEC controller, but it wouldn't operate with infinite control.

But tell me this, S2Thizzle, would u prefer the RSX Type S or just a base model RSX? The Type S has i-VTEC while the base has the same motor as the Civic Si. So its a 40 hp increase, and I am guessing a broader power band

toslowturbo - Of course I would prefer an RSX Type-S over a base model. But the fact is, the base model also uses an i-VTEC engine. And the increase is 30HP.

Could someone give me a guess on how much i would have to spend to build a car to do lapping days and have fun, or should i just buy a car already set up. And what kind of car is a good car to start with

Haha! I must correct myself though - the bhp difference between the RSX Type-S and the base RSX is 40HP right? For some reason I thought the base had 170bhp. Maybe I was thinking of an Integra GSR? Oh well.

Depends what your price range is. If you have about $50-60k to spend, a Z06 would definitely be your best "bang for the buck," (not considering modified used cars of course). Of course, starting with a good platform is a good idea. I don't know - this question is too loaded to answer. You need to provide more details, such as price range, new or used, etc.

You can take ANY car and do lapping days and have fun - without needing to "build" it, as long as it's in good mechanical and physical shape. Anything from a base Civic to an NSX.

However, rather than lapping days, I suggest you start with some HPDE (high performance driver education) events, where you receive in-car instruction as well as classroom instruction. It's much easier if you start off by learning how to do things right, rather than starting off doing things wrong and having to unlearn bad habits.
