since the engine is mounted behind the front axle, it *can* be classified as mid-engiine but not nesesarilly true. we had a big discussion about this on http://www.s2ki.com

the general concensus is that the s2000 is officially classifed as FR.

what you heard is probably that it handles like an MR because of it's weight distribution..

STill the s2000 is an FR drive train as mentioned above.

as someone previously mentioned, most front engined cars have their engine mounted forward of the front axle.

look at a front strut bar under the hood of a prelude, the engine way forward of the strut bar.

on an s2000, the strut bar is far forward of the engine, hence the engine is mounted between the front and rear axle, therefore some consider it a front-mid engine car.

However, as mentioned in http://www.s2ki.com, there is a technical definition of mid-engine that states the engine must be mounted behind the passenger compartment in order to be considered a true mid-engine car.

Mid engine does not mean behind the driver.... It means between the front and rear axle knuckle head! And it is! Which is why it is designated Frount mount Mid Engine.
