So it sounds like to me most of you guys are hating on Rota because of the price of the rims.

Well I know <U>you</U> guys might be "ballin outta control" and can afford some $3000.00 rims and tires, but I think for the normal "Joe" out there the Rota's are a suitable way to save 2 grand. Yeah, they arent real, but that doesnt mean they dont look as good? I think so many people are about "Balla" status that they forget that I might want to spend $1500 on my wheels and the other $1500 on performance parts.

As as far as the reliabilty of the wheels. I have heard both GOOD and BAD stories. I knew a kid with a turbo Del Sol that spun his car off into a ditch and ripped the whole center outta his Rotas, and I have friends who have been rocking Rotas for quite a while with no problems.

Me on the other hand...

I was rocking Rotas and hit a pothole rolling at about 25 mph... All 4 wheels including the other 3 that didnt hit the pothole ripped off hitting 3 stray kitties and the 4th hit a small child causing him not to be able to multiply by 4's. Then my car flew violently into the air spinning around like a ice skater on crack and then spontaniously imploded on itself.

And to LAS2K.

No offence...but just because guys buy Rota's does not mean they dont "take care" of their cars. Thats like saying that people that have 3 kids but roll them around in a Geo Metro dont "take care" of their kids. Some people just cant pay thousands on wheels. I know I chose Rota's because they were a cheap substitute for SW388's. I get picked on every day for not having "Real" spoons. But it will be a cold day in hell when I spend a whole bunch of money on something I am probably going to ruin anyhow. Its the same reason I dont wear $200.00 shoes...

But what do I know...I have never been "Balla Status"

if you read my points the main reason is because of the poorer quality. if some rims cost $1000 and were superb quality i would buy. buy with quality comes price...they go hand in hand.

i'd be willing to bet $1000 that a ssr professor sp1 would bend before a d2.

ssr = super soft rims.

p.s. half of rota's wheels are copied from other companies who spent tons of hours designing them.

I think thats another reason why people hate on Rota.

I dont think its a big secret that Rota takes other companies rims and remakes them.

I cant really hate on them for cornering a market and making cheap replica's of sweet wheels. In fact...I think its cool that they do make some of the wheels that companies like Mugen no longer make.

Now you can look at it 2 ways.

1. The people that cant pay for the "real" wheels can now have a similar looking wheel for half the price.

2. IN making mass copies of the wheel...I think it makes getting a REAL set of wheels that much cooler. "Yeah, I got the Rota SW388's Yo!...Oh...Snap...You got REAL SW388's?!"

Yes, I am making fun of myself. Hahahah

Wow, everytime there is a topic regarding Rota wheels, the thread just gets bigger and bigger yet the discussion is not related to the original post. Abstracthomie was just wondering if this size and offset (17x8+48 17x9+50) will fit the S2000.

Well abstrachomie, hope this helps yah!!!

http://www.s2ki.com/forums/ind...44312

And to everybody, just relax, keep the discussion towards the original post and keep it simple....

Na..we all just chillin' and talkin'

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by jdmdanny &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">you want to run knockoff wheels on a car that goes for $36k brand new?

are you serious? </TD></TR></TABLE>

it's 32k back in 2000 and 34k now.

and not everyone is buying it new, i got mine for less than a price of civic so don't judge the book by the cover. i got the car for value, believe it or not. No to diss anyone but if you have trick wheels, GOOD FOR YOU, but you got to respect the fact that not everyone's ballin'. If i have to pick a set of wheels and paying my college fee, rent, etc, sorry rays, my funds are wiring straight back to phillipine.

sh-t, if rota make a perfect offset for the s, i bet alot of the poor guys with the S will pick up a set.

they will not be as strong and as light as forged magnesium rims, but if you put them into situation that resulted bent/breakin the rota then you can render your rays/volks/ssr/(insert name here) unuseable. I am not saying rota cracking=rays slightly bent or vise versa just because i don't think i know tension strength, motion and other applied physic well enough to say this. if you do, please let yourself known so we can stop guessing.

they are cheap but not cheaply made, tons of guys at the track/autocross usethem all the time and they are proven to be pretty durable but that, of course if you could see pass the fact that they are copy's

so what's my point for saying all this? they have their purpose and definity have a niche(ha..half of the honda-tech is rocking what?) it just too bad our s2k guys cannot enjoy the benefit because they do not make a specified offset for us.

Why does price have to do with anything. i think people are gettin a lil too pretentious and materialistic. Ill give you a good example:

Buying a real Gucci bag for the wife $1000
Buying a fake Gucci bag for the wife $150
Returning the real Gucci bag, saving $850 and telling your wife its not real only to have her say back to you, Im glad you didnt waste your money on a stupid bag for $1000...pricless

As gay as it may sound you can definitely compare women fashion to our rim debate. You see girls flashing around there handbags and 95% of them are fake, unless u live in LA or NY, and they dont care. There still getting the look of that $1000 bag but at a fraction of the cost. Same with rota rims, they look just like the real deal. If I even slapped some Volk decals on my wheels, you wouldnt be able to tell the difference, at least from a distance. I just dont understand if rota rims started to cost 2g's they would be good because of the price? I just dont get why people put a price tag on everything and make judgements. Cuz jaguars are expensive as **** but id never own one, not because i couldnt afford it, its because there pieces of ****. they are $80,000+ pieces of ****. Even if they cost $10,000 id never own one, cuz they suck.

i guess we just pamper our cars.
There are copies of everything. Nikes, Gucci ****, shirts...and then there are the people who like those products and hate to see anyone with a copy. Bottom line is 95% of these people are buying the product to look the part but dont want to give the credit where its due. You said it yourself. Bottom of the bottom line is that 99% of copies out there whether it be wheels or whatever are not up to the same quality as the originals. Whether it be strength or its appearance. Quality over quantity. Its funny to me when the guys with Rotas on their Civics/Integras see a pair on a S2k and are like "WTF Rotas on a S2k. Damn buddy." Just dont fake it. At least nowadays i see people rocking their Rota center caps...be proud

You know what i say when i see a car with Rotas on the street or a meet "Oh Rotas" and walk away.
