Quick Question fellas....
i have a really good lead on a spoon N1, but theres a problem. The tip of the can has a pretty big bend in it. (Thinking it was drove off the curb) The indentation is really bad, but the full pipe is still in great conditiion. It kinda sicken's me to see a nice piece like that be damaged so this to you is my question. Do you think it'll be a smart investment if i was to cut the tip, bring it to a muffler shop, and tell them to re-weld a new SS/Ti tip in Spoon Dimensions? I hate to Ruin Spoons R&D, but the bend is pretty bad. Thanks fellas, lemme know.

There isn't much R&D into the tip. Just take it to a muffler shop and have them fix it, if you are getting a really good deal on it.

Ohh I know, im just talking in general though. awesome. I'll prolly juss end up re-welding a Ti Tip on it. Thanx again

You can't weld ti to steel. Ti welds only to ti. For best results, ss to ss. If you want a Ti tip, you'll need to clamp it on. I'd heat up the tip and reform it into original position.

haha. I know! i was also thinking about this as also an advantage. There's alot of talk of how the Spoon N1 looks "cheap"
I think it'd look sick if i turn it up a notch and throw a Burnt Tip on it

Really? Isn't one of The GP Sports Exhaust for our car a Ti on SS as well as the Hi power with Ti tip ? hmmm.

If you can weld ti to steel alloy, NASA will hire you.

haha, i know but what do you say for the other products i mentioned above? not that im doubting anyone on here but what are they doing differently? It is technically Ti to SS on those exhausts right?

You both are partly right.
In order to weld Ti to alloy, the welding temp needs to be at least equal to the Ti welding temp, which means the steel side of that will be rather unstable. It is possible to mix these too, there are already many things made out of a titanium-steel alloy.
obserious: If you notice the Ti/SS weld, they never come out looking as good as welds on pieces of the same metal.
Like vapor says, if you can weld Ti to SS, it means you can weld Ti/Ti. NASA should hire you, but in basic assembly, nothing great.

It is not possible to mix the two metals in welding. You'll burn holes through the lower melting point metal. Ask some welders, they'll tell you the same thing. The voltage needed to weld SS and Ti are not the same, neither is the welding rod.
