Default Quick question about compression.

I'm going to look look at an S tomorrow and I plan on doing a compression test, look at the plugs, oil and all that nonsense. Just wondering, on a stock motor what the compression test should read for this engine. It's an 00, so the F20. TIA

Dave.

200ish?

make sure you do at least 7 cranks(or more but same number of time for all four cylinder)

consistancy is what you're looking for, make sure the numbers between all cylinders are equal, all plugs removed and throttle open (gas pedal down) on each cylinder test on a warm engine

and also unplug the fuel injectors or the asociated fuel or some of your compression will be lost away

also, aside from the compression check....

check to see if all the TSB's have been done......as the car is out of its warranty period.... unless it is certified to 100k

Finally moving up, eh? (ITR --> S2k)

There were recalls for the spark plugs, tail lights, and seat belt retractors.

Check for a loud whine, which might mean a failing diff. Also, put the top up, check to make sure the rear plastic window is not cracked or scuffed too bad. And take it on the highway with the top up to make sure it's sealing properly between the windshield and the top. Mine had some wind noise at above 80 mph. Oh, you'll most likely have clutch buzz.

Good luck.

Tail lights? For what reason?

No loud whines so I guess I'm good there, the rear plastic on the top is hard as hell to see through but a hard top isn't to far in the future. As for the sealing of the top, well I have wind noise at very low speeds so I was already looking into how to resolve that issue. Is it the top seal, or the seal around the top of the windshield? TIA

Oh, and as for moving up or anything... I still have my R, just needed a new DD.

Dave.

Tail lights - IIRC, something like it didn't seal too well, so you'd get condensation inside of the lenses.

Looks like you have a severe case of wind noise. I'm thinking you'd need to replace the seal around the windshield and perhaps adjust the latches on the top.

And I was just kidding about the upgrade. Although, personally, I enjoyed my S a little bit more than my R, but I think largely due to not worrying about it so much.

I think so. I was looking at the latches, but couldn't figure out a way to adjust the thing. Any write ups or anything on the subject either here or s2ki forum?

LOL. Yeah, it was an upgrade... from an auto EG for the daily grind while the ITR is only a track car. But stock for stock, they are not comparable. 2 totally different cars really.

Is this something that the dealer will cover? My LR tail light has the "pink" reflector. I was just going to find one and replace it, but if they'll cover it I'm gonna pay them a visit.

If yours falls within the TSB, they should replace it. The vin list is on the front page of s2ki under TSB.
