Default question

i know i cant get a completely unbiased opinion but ive been around the honda forums for a few years, used to be a member of hondaprelude.com back in its prime, so i value the community's opinion as long as we keep it free of arbitrary BS. anyway i jsut got a job at a dealership and i can buy cars at cost so im gonna get something nice for myself. the choices i have narrowed it down to right now are in order of how likely i am to get them: 01 audi S4, 01 S2000, 00-02 3.2TL type s, 03 Mach 1, 01 cobra (cant quite afford the 03 even with the discount)
anyway i jsut wanted to know how much you guys like your cars how they take to modifications, how easy they are to drive every day and in all kinds of weather. the audi is on top because for $500 i can get an extra 60hp and 110ft/lbs, it has AWD, 4 doors, a 6 speed and they are VERY VERY luxurious inside. but it still doesnt have the ***** to the walls feel of a s2k. im jsut not sure if i should get a car i can grow into or live for the moment. anyway just looking for opinions and keep it clean, no (honda rules i'd take a 89 CRX over a s4 any day) or (rustangs suck, ill take my schwin)

what do you think the responses will be in a s2000 forum? Honestly, that audi like other awd cars is prone to understeer unless you modify the suspension. Understeer is no fun and neither is hearing the horrible sounds emitted from the front tires

My stepdad has an A4.. It has all sorts of electrical problems, so I'm not to fond of it. You should IM MikeM concerning the S4, he has one IIRC.

IMO the S is the best pick there, but unless you have a beater or the location you live in doesn't see winter, I wouldn't get the S.

Of course we should ask what you intent is for the car.. drag, HPDE, autox?? or none of the above

s4's handle pretty well stock, they usually post better track times than m3's besides this isnt going to be a race car, jsut a quick street car that might occasionally see an autoX. and if i wanted to make it more theres always the rs4 parts bin to pull from, the mod-ability of this car is crazy.

s4 is a VERY nice car....but there's only one problem i see with it.

the motor.

though its a very very very very, well, great motor...it does have its downsides. from what i remember one of my old old friends had an s4 a few years ago, and another one was considering getting one. from what i remember the motors usually have to go back to the factory for some kind of rebuild every 40k miles or so. dont quote me on this, and i dont know how legit this info was, but from what i've heard from people (my friends, and people on the web) the bi turbo motor is one that needs quite a bit of maintainance.

by the way, i probably wouldn't ever get ANY mustang, even a 03 cobra. i'd have to take the ss camaro over that any day....sorry, i'm just partial to the LS1s

well the new TL has lotsa ***** !!!
the 03 Mach 1 is very nice too

The S2k is a heavy POS but performance and handling is exceptional ... looks are insane, everytime I drive mine people give a thumbs up ... that there is no space in the compartment compared to the rest, but lil things like the audio control, cruise control makes me happy.

borrow one from the dealer for a day and driv eit see how you like it.

Don't the S2000 weigh around 2800 lbs? Thats not heavy at all.

the s4 won't need a rebuild as previously stated, but you are in for a suprise if one of the turbos goes out. It's roughly 6,000 to replace unless you're vw inclined. You will have to pull the motor to replace the turbos. the B5 s4 has had some problems with the bosch 5.3 abs sensor which is also in the b5 a4. that is roughly 1,000 to replace. In all honesty the s2000 is the best bang for the buck. I have an a4 that I work on religiously and have actually had good luck so far.
good luck with whatever you choose

Yes, 2800 + change. Saying POS is a little harsh.
