I'm buying a JDM 2001 S2000, and the chain tensioner and chain needs to be changed, has a small knocking sound. Any idea how much one costs, and how easy is it to change?? That's all the honda dlr said it is. But they cost way to much down here to have repaired there.

Well down here, everything is expensive, and the knocking sound isn't as loud now, it wasn't very loud in the first place, but seems to quiet down a bit. Can't complain, cause i'm getting the car for $5000 CI, which is $6000 US. and it's a JDM model right hand drive, but kinda sux in a way, cause there are only 2 on island, but then again makes me stand out.
any other ideas on how much the chain tensioner cost?
please let me know. will be ordering from the states

Whatever you say bud...i dont think any sane person with an S2000 would simply sell it for what is essentially NOTHING just to get it off their hands. Have fun with it...i'd probobly start looking at replacement motor cost...thats just me though.

Geez, everyone on this site, just tries to bring you down on getting one, instead of answering what you asked in the first place. IF i want to get an engine, that won't cost me anything much. i get it straight from Japan for cheap. we have tons of imports here, because we aren't USA territory, so we have all the good cars, like skylines, evo's....all jap spec. anyways, since most of you aren't much help, i'll find some where else to post.
thanks anyways.

Let the haters hate. Great find if you did get it for the price you said you did...
What i think everybody is trying to say is that the knocking noise is prolly worse then just the chain, thats the type of thing that just doesnt wear out or break. I would make sure that its not a piston or rod journal which is doing the knocking.

lol...dont get your panties in a bunch there guy...i wasnt trying to bring you down at all, you just have to understand, NOBODY (and when i say that, i mean NObody) would sell a perfect S2000 for $6,000 just to get it off their hands...and from your description of the noise you're hearing, something is up with the motor, the chain tensioner is probobly one of several pieces that need replacing...there is a difference between engine knock and the sound of a worn out or failing timing chain (and the associated engine noise that comes with that)...
Does the car smoke at all? Has it been serviced appropriately and has it had the fluids in it changed appropriately? You say this guy just needs to get it off his hands...do you realize that when he leaves, he could have the car shipped and sold FOR him through a brokerage agency and get twice what he's selling it to you for even in less than perfect condition.
You're getting bent because we're speaking the truth...bottom line though, half the time the TOTALLED S2000's go for more than $6,000 with an engine that needs probobly alot of work and a body that is probobly unusable at that point. The shell alone without the motor or tranny or suspension is worth over $10,000 sometimes.
You need to relax and understand where we're coming from...if you want a chain tensioner, try one of the hundreds of discount honda parts companies online...im guessing the tensioner is the same regardless of what F20 you have...

You will probably want to take this to a mechanic to get a full diagnostic done. Might cost a few hundred $ but would probably let you know what you are getting into. Compression test, leakdown, valve-train inspec, ect.
Even if the motor is bad, you could probably get a used crated JDM motor and replace it and have an inexpensive s2000.
