Default Push Button Fried... Common Issue?

I have an S2k button in my EG1. Don't ask why...I just do (I dont care if you think it's rice...that's not the issue here...). Last night, my button fried on me. The contacts were arcing whenever the button was pressed. For those who know electronics, arcing causes carbon build up. Carbon build up = bad. Also, the diode on the board inside the button literally cracked in half. Is this a common issue with these buttons? The reason I went with an OEM Honda button was because I knew something like this wouldn't happen...

Did Honda redesign the push buttons at all, or is it the same design/part # since the S2k have been in production? The part # of my button is 35881-S2A-911. A quick google search shows that all S2k's have this button, from 2000-2009. Did I just maybe get a bad button to begin with?

To cover any basis, I have it wired up the proper way, although even if I had it wired directly to the battery and the starter for power and signal, it should (in theory...) be able to handle the full voltage/current produced.

Has anyone else had any issues with these buttons? I really don't want to keep blowing through $40 buttons every 6 months...

The Button do go bad from time to time. Its not exactly common, but its not uncommon either. The reason your button probably went bad was because you put it in a CIVIC.

The sole fact that it was in a Civic has NOTHING to do with the fact that due to the design of the button, it fried itself. The current coming from an S2000 compared to the current from a Civic is irrelevant to the buttons failure. If you've ever taken an OEM push button apart, you'll see exactly what I'm talking about.

Had I said I owned an S2000 and my push start button fried on me, your views would be completely unbiased. Just because I put a push start in my "Civic" (you should really learn what an EG1 is, btw) doesn't make the matter different. The button was wired properly, as in it was wired how it would have been wired in an S2000.

Obviously you didnt wire it properly otherwise it wouldnt have been Arcing and causing the carbon build up.

You also need to learn what a EG1 is.

EG1 USDM 1993-1995 Civic del Sol (8-valve)
EG1 USDM 1993-1995 Civic del Sol S (SOHC)
EG1 USDM 1993-1995 Civic del Sol VTEC-E (SOHC)
EG1 USDM 1996-1997 Civic del Sol (8-valve)
EG1 USDM 1996-1997 Civic del Sol S (SOHC)
EG1 USDM 1996-1997 Civic del Sol VTEC-E (SOHC)

NOTICE: They are all CIVICS.

I hate having a pointless start button when I have to turn the key anyway...I don't know why someone would want to put it in their Civic..
Like Boots said, it killed itself, probably out of dishonor being rigged up in a Civic.

just curious but do you have to hold the button down while turning the key to start it?

I put one in my Integra as the tumbler wore out and it was an ultimate PITA to replace (drill bolts out, new key etc. key would go to accessory and that's it)

The button is about 3 wires and 10 min install. Secret fuel pump switch and was good to go.

Some times modifications do serve a function, not just a form...
