Just keep an eye in the rear view... youll be fine.
the uhaul trailer i towed was bigger than my car, and had a speed limit of 45mph. i did most of the PA-->MN trip above 70 no problem.

I'm in the same boat you are. I would love to have a full roof rack for my car, as I had it on all my other cars. I'm a pretty hardcore MTBer, and now I can hardly go anywhere. I don't know what I'm going to do in the summer.
I'm **** about my car, so I don't want to mount a trunk rack. The hitches are my next option. The Chase Race hitch seems to be the best in terms of quality and popularity among S2000 owners. I will probably get that, but note that it's $420 new. Once you have that, you can get the Thule/Yakima hitch rack, and you can also tow a small trailer if you want.
I have a hardtop now, but I can't imagine anything sturdy being able to be mounted to that without causing damage. I spent way too much money on that hardtop for it to be screwed up. Then again, I spent ~$3500 on my bike.

I got a hitch thru uhaul. its not uhaul made, they buy it from someone else (i can check the label on it next time im under my car) but i have 0 complaints about it. fairly easy to mount and really strong. it hides really well to under the bumper. i believe it was $320 new but i got it covered by my job since it i towed a trailer here and it was considered a relocation expense.
and just so u know, most hitches require some drilling. if that scares you beware. i had to do 4 holes thru the trunk floor and two into the bumper supports.
