Missed shift
Crap I was driving home late last night and while in 3rd at redline, i go to shift to 4th but instead land in second. I never let clutch all the way out and saw the rpms go up to the high 7k's. My question is, does the tach light up red like when you hit 8k during an overrev? If it does, how accurate is the tach, since i never saw hit light up red at 8k am i ok on this?

I hit redline all the time. The difference this time is i down shifted at the top of 3rd to 2nd instead of 4th.

After reading a bunch of old posts on this, im guessing my clutch must have been slipping like crazy since i never fully disengaged the clutch when i dropped it in 2nd keeping me from launching the rpms to 10+k. Saved by a slipping clutch
My 06 gear box is so goddamn notchy even after its warmed up that it makes it hard to do smooth shifts
I guess i better have the dealer look at that before another shifting mishap

why would he post in the s2000 froum if it was one of his other cars? get out of this forum, you have nothing to contribute.
OP, you're fine.

lol!
I know the s2000 tranny, ap1 or ap2, does not fare well with poor shifting technique. If you grind gears often/seldom, the damage could already be done.

I bought the car brand new hoping that the notchiness was just from being new. A few thousand miles later, it never went away

most of the time it's just used tranny juice, but if you haven't grease the shifter for a while, check it out.
if you think you misshifted your ride, have it compression checked out, if the reading is bad pop the valve cover to check for retainer damage.
I inspected coupld of overrev'ed S before, it's better be safe and sorry.
PM me if you need a check up done, I been doing alot of testing/wrenching for SOCAL S lately

iam7head,
How bad were the over-rev'd S's that you inspected? Any of them get away unscathed? Thanks for the offer to inspect it, but im up in norcal.
The car has 2k miles on it, its still the original fluid. Its so notch between the gates its hard to get clean shifts.

Look into Redline, Royal Purple, or GM Synchromesh FM tranny fluids at your next oil change.

mileage isn't always a factor in fluid changes. If the car has been sitting around, the fluid would need changing out too.

i checked 3 overrev'ed S, all three of them are fine, first two were ap1's with more mile, the 03 pulled 200psi across the board, the 01 pulled 200/195 and the last 06 pulled 215(with 5k on the odo)
i checked the retainer and they are fine
well, the most of the time it just need a tranny fluid change, there's a NEW version of the honda mtf, not sure how good is the new one tho. I am using GMSMFM
