autocrossers typically launch a 6k or higher. ive seen some say they will launch from 7500. I assume thats if they are dealing with really wide rcomps. you can really slip the clutch much if at all or youll glaze it at that rpm.... so yea, autocrossers often replace their diffs regularly.
I read recently that onc guy's diff handled 6k launches autocrossing for 5 years before it went. thats pretty good. I expect mine to be done this year or the next, especially since this will be my first year the S will have R-Comps. I always have my eye open for a spare diff.

Another note on launching. our diffs suck at handling shock. when i launch i typically rev up, and let the clutch touch a very very little bit so the car creeps some. (this means the gears are all lined up on the acceleration side of the teeth), and then let the clutch out very rapidly (not quite 'dropping' the clutch). This atleast prevents gear slap... so its not as bad. its still hard on the diff tho just due to the stress.
if you get the wheels to spin, and you aren't on a sticky surface, you will be ok. However, like any wear item, the harder you treat something, the lower its life. I make over 300ft/lbs of torque and have no issues with my diff, however, i don't launch it often. and when i do, its with lots of wheel spin.
well spin is good thru all of non-vtec. you should hookup right before vtec. the tough thing about launching race tires is avoiding wheel hop which is real bad for the diff.
