Default Knock Sensor

Well I am changing my clutch today, in the midst of pulling the tranny and as I make my 3' extension to get the infamous top starter bolt I make the mistake of letting the extension rest on the sensor and almost instantly with no pressure I hear a crack...I stop, pull the extension out and voila, my knock sensor is in 2 pices...

Majestichonda has them for $156.99 which is uber gay...but my mistake...

Question is, will any year knock fit any year s2k?

Mines an 05.

Also, is it that important? I know on civics it is pretty useless above 4-5k. I would hate to pony up the cash and not even really use it.

I have an AEM EMS, and their serial 59-1 gauge. It can monitor knock which I thought would be cool, but if it is pointless, then I won't bother replacing it.

Comments/flames/etc?

Thanks in advance.

Is your EMS using the knock sensor input? Some tuners don't use it if they are expecting you to consistantly use the same grade of fuel.

PM sent.

I should be able to turn it off in the AEM, however I'd like to have it if it's somewhat important...I'm doing research to see if it is in fact "needed".

Talk to your tuner and ask if he is going to use knock feedback. Many don't... I myself do and feel the knock sensor is one of the most important sensors. You should be able to find one used, but it's still going to cost you! GL

I was speaking to a well known tuner and he said the stock sensor w/the AEM is a joke. The noise of a turbo motor makes the sensor almost useless.

He did go on to say, that a flat response sensor is the way to go, that comes on other vehicles. You can setup the aem to work w/a different sensor.

Still not sure on what route I wanna go. Just turn off the sensor completely, or upgrade to something else...

I guess that makes sense with the turbo right there. Could be different with a front or top mount turbo I guess. I'm running Vortech, don't seem to have any issues with sound. I mean with vtec and all, there is only so much you can hear/see. I have not found it useful if you are monitoring it to prevent damage. Just nice to have when tuning. When we add more timing you can see when it starts to knock, then you know to back it down. Again it all depends on your tuner.
