my parents got our 3300 SQFT house Brand new in 03' for 245k, with marble counters, and tile in kitchen and all 4 bathrooms.
But in Jersey, 300k will barely buy a nice town home.

yeah ive heard of crazy stories across the nation where people would get like 2 acres of property, 3000+ sq. feet for under 300K...
townhouses range from 200-300K around me... im lookin at 4bdr, 2.5 bath, .25-.5 acre, 2 car garage, pool is a bonus... were in no rush, but we def will have something soon...

the housing market amazes me sometimes.
I am renting my parents old house. 2400 sq ft (not including finished basement). WAY too much space for one guy and his dog. lol

on a brighter note... im putting in several bids to a few houses... looks like by the end of november we(me and my girl) should have bought a house... very exciting....</TD></TR></TABLE>
I'm doing the same in the spring I think. I've been looking at townhouses around here and a mortgage on one of those would be cheaper than my rent.
I've heard from a lot of people to underbid like crazy because there are so many people desperate to sell. http://www.zillow.com is a good resource to get info on properties

Yep! No one is really buying houses so you'd be stupid not to take an offer anywhere near what your asking. That is if you don't mind sitting on the house for months

That's easy to cure! Block the vents in the rooms you don't use and seal them off. Or just use space heaters and fire places instead of central air.

Exactly what I did. I hope to see a difference from last years winter bills.
There is one fireplace in the house, but, it is natural gas powered. LOL Not going to save me anything there.

yea its pretty richter (off the richter scale) here. some areas are pretty bad... one suburb town flipped 2 cars (1 of which is on fire), started a bonfire in the center of town, and knocked over a lamppost
