Default HELP ME!

Hey everyone i need some help here.
My 02 S2000 has been making a ticking noise on the start up. No other time than that however. Im assuming it isn't valve clatter simply because it doesn't make the noise when the car is idling. It only makes it just at start up. And it doesn't even make it all the time. If the car has sat over night and is cold it doesn't make the noise. However if i have drivin it somewhere, say to run some errands or to pick up a friend, ill come back out, start it, and it will make a loud ticking noise. Almost comparable to a tractor noise. It's not extremely loud but its loud enough to be embarrasing.

Also recently change my oil, (car has about 45,000 on it) and after i changed it, it ceased from making the noise all together. But now its back again. Is my oil pump going? Is it a bent valve? Someone help!

first question: have you checked the oil level?
second question: have the valves ever been adjusted?

I just went out and checked the oil level. It's full. And no the valves have never been adjusted, however i have read that hondas are prone to having valve clatter. The thing that makes me think it ISNT valve clatter is that it doesn't happen all the time. Like ill start it up once, it'll make the noise. I'll shut it off immedietly afterword then start it up again immedietly after i shut it off and it won't make the noise....im so confused

It just sounds like one of the valves is getting to the loose side of its tolerance and is "ticking" at startup until the oil pressure can compensate. I also get it slightly and I think a valve adjustment will fix it. Probably sooner than later would be a good idea.

Also you won't get the "tick" on a warm start because there is still residual oil pressure.

there is more info needed to diagnose your car over the internet. I would advice you take it to a certified mechanic to look it over. If the ticking is loud enough to be heard while driving, you're likely to have a more major problem than I think.

sounds like you need a valve adjustment...

but like vapor said, take it to a mechanic to get it diagnosed.
