Fith gear dissapeared? (gearbox problems)
My 2003 S2000 has 32000 miles and recently I was going through the gears and could not get it in 5th (no prior warning signs). It doesn't grind or make any noise, there is no gate for 5th. Does anyone have any ideas of what may have happened/broken? All the other gears are fine.
Any ideas?

Well earlier in the day I was doing about 50 in 4th gear and went to change up to 5th and had a little trouble so I put it in 6th instead. I didn't think anything of it because it worked fine a few minuits later. Then after being parked for 3 hours, I went for a drive again and it just wasnt there anymore???
I live in the UK and the Honda dealership near me wants £635.00 ($1270.00 US) to take it apart for a look ...... so its pretty expensive.
Looks like i may be driving a 5 gear S2000 for a while !!!!!

The only thing I can think of would something stupid which happened to me.
My car locked it self in the reverse position so there would be no lockout, so if i accidently put it in reverse it would grind(never happened).
I would sometimes try to put it in fifth but since it would go all the way over for reverse when trying to engage 5th, it never would, so i had to carefully push it over just slightly to hit fifth.
If your car is in the lockout position for reverse then don't mind me, but it could help who knows.

I work for a tranny shop, and the only way for us to figure out something like that is the remove the transmission and open it up. Goto a transmission specialty shop, they wont charge you that much to find out whats wrong, but it wont be cheap to fix. If your lucky, it's just your synchro, which is a $150 fix. Any other gear you would be looking at over $700 at least.
