Engine light on after oil change
I just bought a used s2000 and it had just gotten it's 60k service.
I just changed the oil to a synthetic blend and when I buttoned her up the check engine light came on.
Any ideas???

I'll try the 3 click and drive it 3 times for 1/2 hour or so and see if that works.
I tried to reset it by holding the trip meter and then turning the key on but no worky...
Thanks for the advice.

I did put the wrong oil weight in. castrol synthetic blend 5w 20. (Damn shucks employee said that was the Honda manual choice, I didn't get a manual with the car.). I'm not sure that would trip the CLE but maybe. I plan on draining and puting in a synthetic 10w 30 like the damn cap suggests.
The CLE didn't reset by pushing the trip meter. It was suggested on a different forum..

pushing the tripometer resets the trip ometer...u have to do a silly trick that i forget like hold down the mph button while u turn the ignition to the on position and wait 5 seconds....anyone remember that precisely?
honda forgot to do mine so i called up and they told me over the phone but i forgot that was monthes ago.

One thing you gotta remember about S2000 is that even though it's a small step in the oil change process, it is still mandatory to torque the filter, did you make sure you did that? I mean could be as simple as that. Also, in order to reset the maintenance light you have to press the reset/select button with the ignition in the off position and while still holding it down turn the key to the accesories position and wait until it starts flashing or it comes off, if that doesn't work then try this, turn the ignition to the accesories position and then press the tripometer button in and out until the oil life display comes on, then hold it and when it starts flashing let it go and then hold it again until it reads 100% or it goes back to the odometer reading, to double check just keep pressing it again in and out until the oil life is displayed again by this time it should read 100% if you did it right. One last thing, make sure you know the difference between your check engine light and your maintenance light, nothing personal but a lot of people get them confused and i see it on a daily basis. If it is your check engine light don't stress yourself out trying to figure out what's up, just go to autozone and get the PGM Tester and pull out the codes, they don't charge for that. Well hope my advice helped in some sort of way, good luck.

Is this for all Model Year S2000's?? I don't see this anywhere in the manual for my 2004...

It's definitly the little engine with "check" inside of it. I tried those options you suggested but still the check engine light is on. I put the oil filter on by hand and torqued it pretty good. I can't believe I'd need a torque wrench to put on an oil filter. But... I'm not that weak... I tried to torque it more but now I'll need a wrench to tighten or loosen it, it's that sealed.
I'll stop by a autoparts house and get the codes.
I tried the gas cap trick too. Still nothing. Thanks

I have the same year and bought it two years ago. At the time it had just under 31k miles. I don't know what the previous owner, or the dealer put in it, but I put in a synthetic (10w30 Redline) when I got it. I've had no such problems. If all the above don't help, you might have to go to the dealer, have them run a diagnois and see what's up!
Well sorry you have to go through all this B.S. Just do that, get the codes and we'll go from there. It'll be alot easier to pinpoint the problem with them.
