Yeah, because the diff alone is upwards in the $1000+ range from Honda. Have any of you with extra diffs got them cryo-treated or anything to try to make them stronger?

i think they cyro-treat the gears in the diff, not the diff casing itself...

Ive seen them blow no matter what treatment or housing was added. I dont care about labor, I thought he meant that thats how much the diff was from honda.

I asked Quaife about the diff and they said it was not the diff itself causing the problem, only that the diff is next to the problem which cause the diff and the housing to go. I can't get to the email right now but I'll post it up in a bit.

The OEM diff assy are $4200-4800 new. If you go to a junk yard then you might get one for $1200. Ebay???

How effective is the Comp-Tech Housing? can it stand up to the abuse better?

Here's the email I was talking about.
Thank you for your inquiry. We have looked at the third member for the S2000 and have found several weaknesses with the housing as opposed to the differential. Since we are only in the business of making the differentials themselves, we have not pursued designing the part any further. I do know that there are several companies out there that make reinforcements for the third member, but we have no experience with them. Please let me know if there is anything I can help you with.

Main weakness was the housing and or gears themselves not the LSD. Conmptechs reinforcement addresses the issue, but can and has still blown. The problem is that with high launches the gears may push back off the housing and in turn shreds the teeth.

So if you drive like an *** or drag race alot then you'll be replacing diff's. But say you track or auto-x then it's not something that a person should worry about.
