Considering an S2000
I saw a video of an S2000 with ITBs (Im more than certain you guys have seen it too) and the sound immediately made me think 'Screw the M-coupe... Im getting one of those'
However the sound of the ITBs at WOT is basically what Id be looking to get.
Now I assume ITBs wont work terribly well on a basic F20 engine. I assume Ill need to drown about $8000 in performance mods (ECU, Throttles, Cams, headers) to really even gain anything FROM the throttles
however, I do see first year S2000s going for under $18,000 near me... so thats not totally out of the question.
Anything I should be looking for in particular?
And what would you choose?
BMW M-coupe or S2000?
*edit
I dont know how long this Trial user thing lasts, so I cant reply at the moment
but the M-coupe (NOT THE M3) is RELATIVELY similar to the S2000
Aside from the open top of the S2000, they are both 2 seater sports cars.

M-coupe
3.2L 315bhp I6. Individual Throttle bodies with Dual Vanos (or 3.2L 240bhp I6 with single VANOS)
the later S54 powered ones redline at 7800rpms and weigh about 3100lbs
the earlier S52 powered ones redline at 6800rpms and weigh about 2990lbs
Used S52 powered ones can be found for between $18 and 22k
Used S54 powered ones can be found for between $22k and $30k
now the S2000 you guys all know about obviously
F20C 2.0L I4. 240bhp. 9000rpm redline, 2760lbs.
Ive found used ones for as low as $18k and up to $25k
It's got an extra gear (and its a Honda gearbox... so you cant get much better than that)
Both cars also have VERY similar performance figures (0-60 in about 5.5s. 1/4mile in the mid 14s.
they are both part of the 70mph+ 600ft slalom club. And they can both pull between .95g and 1.0g on a 200ft skidpad.
So, they are much more similar than you think

I don't think the sound of ITB's is a good reason to buy a car. I mean, come on. These are two totally different cars. One is a two seater covertible and the other is a four passenger hard top. Have you ever test driven the S?
Why don't you buy a motorcycle? They sound pretty good too.

if you like lots of lowend torque, the m-coupe is the obvious choice. the s2000 is a like a high-revving sport bike, decent torque but amazing hp up top. testdriving both will help you choose.
They're both be loud with ITB's if that's really all you're looking for. The S is the better value, but they both do their job. Very different cars really.
I think that glagola1 is right. One is a track-native roadster and the other is a GT performace coupe. They are not even in the same ballpark. If you are not going to buy both, make must up your mind what it is that you want before comparing apples and oranges.
they are much more similar than you think, but considering Im kind of limited to what I post until my trial date is over (whenever that is) I didnt emphasize the similarities
They really are quite similar and I edited the top of the thread to explain what I mean.

Thats sucks, sorry to hear it.
The M-coupe is going to be a more comforatble car to get around in. You'll have torque to stay in high gears, wher you'd normally have to downshift twice in the s2k. The s2k on the other had has been a pretty consistant champ in BS SOLO II events, and I beleive is the better of the two for racing around a track. The M-Coupe will go faster in a straight line, and impress the ladies more.

Vortex Car Lounge invasion!
I would go with the S2000 over the M-coupe. I too love the M-coupe and they are very comparible cars, but I like the S2K better.
My issue is C5 Corvette vs S2000, ahh it's nice to be young.

actually I came over here for the main reason to check on the new ZeroForum software.
Im torn between my love for Straight Sixes and stupid high RPMs...
I think my love for straight sixes might pull through... my 325iS is really cool and its REALLY fast (Fast for my current skill level as a driver)
and by the time I land a $60k a year job... Ill be able to choose between any S2000 and an S54 M-Coupe.
the S54 engine has a TON of potential. Ive seen normally aspirated ones pushing 400bhp with minor mods (ECU, intake, exhaust add about 50bhp to the existing 315)
the JimC chip in the S54 M-coupe raises the redline to 8100rpms

nice, huh?
headers.
($3000
)
The single most expensive cat-back system Ive ever seen ($1500)
and the Schrick 280deg cam is $1400...
SOOOO... the question... how much power does $6500 buy in an S2000?

Yes it is.
Personally after driving/owning an S2000, and driving my friend's M-coupe, I like the M-Coupe better. Slightly more luxurious inside. The S2000 is definitely more of a driver's car though.
