ok i have a 06 s2k and it has about 8700 miles and i already broke my diff. the dealer is trying to say that its not covered under warranty bc of abuse to the car. and sugestions thanks

suggestion: pay them to fix it because it really is your fault if you broke it.

 

Do some research and find a lot of information showing how it's a common problem. Having a stock S2000 will probably help as well. Really though, it's probably your fault and you should cover it.

I.e.: I was making a right hand turn, after the light turned green, and I heard a cruching noise.....

Whether it broke while driving to church or it broke doing a 9000rpm clutch drop...it still broke under normal operating conditions as far as I am concerned. If the engine can put out a certain amount of torque at a certain rpm, the drive train components should have been designed to deal with it. The transmission was, the axles were, but the differential wasn't. I thought this was common knowledge.

Whether the dealer will or will not cover it, don't say it's this guy's fault for breaking his differential. It's Honda's fault for dropping the ball during the design process...and people generally buy their cars because they are known NOT to do this. If he knew this was a common problem, he should take some of the blame, but we should not shift it away from the original cause.

The S2000 is supposed to be a Honda, not a Subaru or Mitsubishi.

If the car is STOCK the diff should have been designed to handle all the STOCK abuse you can throw at it....

If the car is under warrenty and is still a STOCK S2000 then honda should pay....dont let the dealer bully you...Honda should have designed them better....if the Stock engine makes the power to break it then its hondas fault.....Tell the dealer to prove you abused the car....

 

I'd like to here what happened before it broke...
8700 miles is a new car and new cars that cost 34+ should not be breakin so easily.

my car has 6x the miles and i track my car (talk about abuse) and i've never had anything like this happen. :knocks on wood:

tell me about it, mine racked up 100k+ and i drive the car aggressively.

don't get me wrong, i am all with you about honda "should" be reliable(talking from a guy fix vw and dsm all the time), but there's a difference between user error type of abuse from driving aggressively(which is the way the car should be driven)

without knowing how the OP manage to do that, all just useless guess and assumption(including mine of course)


obvious the dealer see things the other way(for covering their ***** like all american companies will do now a day), and i would love to hear from the OP where and under what condition/terms was his claim denied.

Well for the diff to go out at 8700 miles, he most likely beat the **** out of it or did something stupid. I may be wrong, but I've yet to hear about it going out with normal driving anywhere near that... The only time I've heard of it even going to **** is when someone's beating on the car. Yes, you expect it to hold up, but that's the risk you take with aggressive driving. When do we hear how it went out?

 

honda didn't design the axles to handle the power. they are the same size as a civic. i had my car for three months and broke 3 axles. i found out they break because of the stretch that they have on take off and when you lower them. when the rear of the car comes down your axles are at there full stretch which is there weakest point. the aftermarket makes 10mm spacers that correct this problem and they are farely cheap. the rear end is your fault. i have turned my car into a drift car and know what it takes to make it handle the power. the rearends are very weak and not designed to drag race or drift. they werent made to handle instant power. if you want to make your rear end strong then get a stronger rear end housing, 4:56 gears and get them frozen by http://www.300below.com this will make them stronger then anything you can buy, and also get a 1.5 or 2.0way LSD. if you want to impress the hotties then it takes some money. thats life. deal with it!

I drag race, take turns, and do a little sliding but I havn't had any problems. ::knock on wood::
