Default audio control

If I take out the stock head unit and upgrade to a better deck, can I still use the audio controls on the dash? Or do I have to keep the stock deck for them to work

There are 3 options.
1) don't use them
2) there is some conversion unit for sale I think someone on s2ki
3) alpine makes a conversion unit but you have to use a german headunit. Not really bad you can change the language and you can scan past 107.9 But pricey.

you can find more info there.

has anyone checked with a local custom stereop shop and inquired about the PAC SW-1 or PAC SW-2. These are universal steering wheel remote controll interface units. As long as the stereo your a installing has a IR remote and you can identify the wire in the factory radio harness (comes with instructions), you can program it to do just about everything.

I'll check at work tomorrow. Never even thought to see about an S2K. I'll let you guys know.

I dont think id personalyl want a remote on the steering wheel...its small and has enough going on with the cruise control stuff...i think given the controls are already there on the dash, might as well just use them...but hey, whatever floats your boat. My adaptor is on its way right now...should be at my house tommorow.

i think you mis understood me. Its an interface unit to retain the OEM audio controls on the steering wheel with an aftermarket radio. On a S2K, the OEM audio controls are on the dash, not the steering wheel, but the interface unit should be able to retain those with most any aftermarket radio.

The PAC unit I am talking about it a readily available interface from most any stere shop.

I completely understand what your saying...controls on the steering wheel. What i said is that i dont think i would really want them on there, and that the dash controls are just fine for me...
