Default AP1 or AP2??

Well just got out of college and need a new car!
So, AP1 or AP2
Here is what I plan to do:
SCCA maybe
Over all clean looks
Drag once or twice just for S & G

but really what i am asking is what can you do more with.. the 2 or the 2.2

do yourself a huge favor before you get flamed into next century.

go to the top of the page, go far right, and you will see a red search button. push it.

now type in ap1 ap2. you will return about half a million results.

you cannot go wrong w/ either one....

however, for me i chose the 9k redline(ap1) because i autox and most of my local events allow me to stay in first gear the whole time.....

I think most of the S2000 owners on here are AP1 drivers so there is a bias.

I drive an AP2 so I am also biased XD.

I vote AP2. Looks better, more torque, less twitchy, just over all more refined.

i think its a pretty mixed crowd in here,

more torque? last time i checked 10ft lbs.. that can be made up with better driving... i personalyl dont like ap2 headlight/tail lights... they look like Ebay specials...

you hit the nail on the head with this statement.......more refined

the AP2 is more refined for the average consumer........all of the enthusiast bought the s2000 in the first couple of years.........so in order to keep sales coming they had to dumb it down to attract a broader market......the ap2 is not as pure as the ap1 if you are looking for a bare bones sports car.

ohhh the great debate... hmmm lemme guess all the AP1 owners will say AP1's are the ****, and then all the AP2 owners will say... guess what... there the ****... but when it comes down to it... I am the **** ok and I drive an AP2... haha jk

seriously just take a coin and flip it.

the reason i chose my AP2 is it fit my price range, good warranty, low miles, and flawless body... it seriously looks like a brand new car. so to each his own... get wat u can afford and you will still smile everytime you drive it... good luck with the sale...

Drive both and decide. Read around about how previous owners of AP1 drive AP2 now and like it more. Maybe the force be with you...

i had an ap1 for about a year. wanted something fresh. traded for an 06. i fell in love with the 06. altought there are times i miss 9k, there is now more useable power. and to the people that rip on the 'torque' improvement'...its there, and it can definitley be felt. very nice for light to light driving. i felt with the ap1, i had to bring it up to 7-8k just to keep up with moderatley moving traffic. altough a 9k redline is very cool and unique, i think it is a tad bit over-rated. the looks of the ap1 just feel dated and too dull to me. both are great cars, and if i could have afforded it, i would have kept the ap1 w/ the purchase of the ap2.

Preach it. This gets annoying after a while. Although 7-8k is a bit exaggerated, I know exactly what you mean.

So my question for all of you is.. how is the handling of the AP2 compared to the AP1? I did some research and found that the AP2 chassis had been stiffened, and that there were changes in toe settings to improve handling.

Reason I'm asking is, I found an AP1 in perfect condition with 44K for $16,900 out here, and I was wondering if this is a reasonable price, considering the S2K has gone through several changes to the engine, tranny and chassis since the inception of the AP1. Can the new suspension and toe setting be applied to the AP1? And is it true what some have said, that the engine response of the F20 is anemic until you get into VTEC range?

stock for stock they are within a second from eachother... in the right hands both in stock form can out do the other and vise versa......

but honestly how many are going to keep it stock????

your going to do suspension upgrades, aggressive alignments, power mods etc......

pick whichever is in your budget and be over with it...

i had a 00 S2K and beat on it to well over 100K and still looked in showroom condition.. could have i gotten a AP2?? Yes but i choose not too because the AP1 fit me perfect... i wanted the RAW, go cart convert feel the AP1 gave me.. the AP2 is a refined yet more "cumsumer friendly" version...

Have you driven both? There is a considerable difference in the way the tuning affects the newer motors, namely it has quite a bit more torque across a wide range.

The figures don't tell the whole story.

The newest S2000 feels a little more secure and tightly put together. You can change your suspension settings, but you cannot make the car stiffer without adding bracing yourself.

I would not call it anaemic, but the newest cars are definitely easier to drive well, and less annoying on a day to day basis.

Oh, puh-LEEESE!! LOL....

You make it sound like it's a 356 vs GT3 discussion.

haven owned an ap1 and now a new 07 ap2. I can tell you the Ap2 IMO is more refined, not as high strung, but still fun to drive. The newer Ap2s according to s2ki.com are putting out around 215whp. Do the math thats about 255-260 at the crank. The 10 pds of torque isnt negligable, more useable power in midrange. the other plus is the ECu is reflashable in the 06s and 07s. Hondata has a stock reflash that nets about 15pds/tq and about 12-14 hp throughout the rev range (but only a slight increase in peak power)

Funny the AP1 is staying ahead in the poll, though.

Some of you guys seem to mean business.

I have never seen an AP2 race car, by the way. All the H1 Honda Challenge cars are also the older ones.

AP1's are less expensive, meaning more people can afford them, so they all gathered here to vote.

I was one of the few who was stupid enough to track an almost virgin AP2. Oh well?

So guys, what is the best way to make additional power for the AP1? I understand these engines are pretty much optimized from the factory and it is difficult to eke out a few extra ponies. I found a sweet silver AP1 out here and the payments would be $319 a month with no money down, it is very tempting to buy it..

And what would be the best suspension setup to run on this car?

Best carbon fiber parts?

Best tires?
