Default whats wrong here?

ok this is the thing, my cousin has a 97 prelude non sh, and i want to know whats going wrong, i guess when he has it up high on rpms at like 6300 rpms his car just like pulls back and it wont go no furthter like on rpms so he has to shift? shouldnt it go higher and if so what do you guys think is going wrong? any of you had this problem? thanks

his ecu is in limp mode. try resetting it. if that doesn't work, he has more work to do.

check the oil level, and engine temp. Granted this has more to do with VTEC... 5th gens have 2 rev limiters. one set at around 7600, and one at around 6200. Usually you only hit the 6200 one when VTEC doesn't work (IE>> Your not moving, engine is cold, or the oil is too low).

Yea without VTEC the rpms won't climb as far up.

Yeah, 5th gens are like that... you are either low on oil or the engine is cold..
