I haven't had a washer on the oil drain plug for 100k miles and have forgotten what it used to look like

the bolt is a 17mm, and I think the washer is regular metal washer.

picks up any little metal pieces that may be floating around in your motor...Besides they were only $20 a pair for the tranny and oil plugs from Marcucci Motor Sports

the washer is aluminum, should be changed every oil change as well, that way you dont overtorque your oil drain plug.
to comment on magnetic drain plugs....i suppose they could be worht somehting but i recently had some lower end problems and a magnet did not pick up anything, after all teh bearing material that wsa wearing is not magnetic. When I blew a tranny teh magnet that is already in there worked great too.
