Lude "bogging" while quick gas pedal command?!?
My lude 2001 SE manual is "bogging" (like a hick-up) at all time when I press the gas pedal completely very quickly (like a kick down). It is mostly very noticable between 3000 and 4500 rpm (I run at constant speed and then I quickly press tha gas pedal). And when I press just a little bit the gas, it seems that the gas command comes in steps. It drives me crazy because I can not feel all the power of the car. Honda dealer does not see any problem. This is the first car (I had 5 Honda cars) that does that. Is it normal, a flaw of the lude or something wrong with my car? What do you think?
Thanks

my car also does the same thing (97 Base Model) and it bothers me greatly because somtimes my car runs really strong and other times while its bogging out it doesnt feel nearly as fast. i have new spark plugs, wires, and fuel filter waiting to go on to see if that will help, but i just havent found time yet so maybe that will make a difference

I have recently changed the spark plugs, dist cap and rotor but it did not get rid of this problem. The ignition wires were not changed though since Honda dealer said it was useless to change them. The parts change improved the performance. At this moment I have sometimes a strong acceleration and other time it feels more like a civic than a lude. I did not change the fuel filter though.
Please keep me posted on your results.
Are we the only ones with that bogging problem?
I would appreciate comments also from the peoples who have not the problem so it can be a kind of survey.
Thanks

Say hello to the infamous Prelude Hesitation!
Noone's pinpointed the problem, although some things to try are:
- Plugs/wires/rotor/cap
- New distributor
- New knock sensor
- New fuel filter.

Does it mean that some ludes have the problem or all of them have it?

Just some. Many people have supposedly fixed it with replacement of the knock sensor. Mine didn't, although it's not really fully back.....it just happened once. I think mine may be a problem with my dizzy.

still havent had time to change it but i asked my friend if his motor ever did it (h23-vtec) and he said his bogs in the lower 2500-3500 rpm's but thats it. he thinks his problem is that hes running rich but i have no clue so maybe whenever he gets his vafc2 in and gets it tuned well see if it helps any
Some news. Honda changed the timing belt with idlers and cleaned the sensor and guess what: no change on the bogging!
Thus the next day I had the car again to the dealer and went again for a ride with their best technician. At the end of the day they told me that it was one of the clutch spring that was too stretched. They have to change the whole clutch assembly and the cost is about $950. Is there another cheaper way to fix this?
I had manual transmission in my cars for more than 15 years and I never changed my way of shifting the speeds. But I am the second owner of the car.

Man my car bogs like **** sometimes, and sometimes its strong as hell. I get hiccuping between 2.5-3.5k rpm. Its a 1992 converted to OBDII with a 1996 H22a1 in it.
Mainly happens when I get a bogged start from first, happens like everytime i start with ac on for instance. And then it rides boggy and hiccupy and slow until i turn off car and then turn on, go in reverse, and wala.
What the hell is this? My shop just had my valve cover off, inspected cams to see if they were off, checked timing, its perfect.. no one knows what the ***** happening here. Knock sensor, anyone elaborate? And mine doesnt just hesitate through the power band - it really hiccups even when holding pedal steady !!!
Anyone else relate? This is an embarrasment to drive, i cant have a girl in the car and be hiccuping!

i wonder how many of these prelude hesitation topics we'll have to start till someone figures it out.
anyway, psilo, i have the same problem along with a very hard to drive smooth car b/c it jerks everytime i try to ease on the gas. like in one of the other hesitation topics i created, i think it's just the way the fuel maps are on the ecu. i noticed in other peep's dynos, their air/fuel ratio was pretty rich exactly between 2-3.5k.
i don't know about the rest of you guys, but do you notice that your exhaust drones only between 2-3k also? i think that's a sign of running rich. it also kind of switches exhaust notes. it gets more of a "bwaaaa" sound to it.
i say somebody that has a hondata and had the hesitation problem test some things out. test it stock with the hesitation. then check it with the hondata installed and tuned at 2-3k rpm and see what happens.

I think my problems worse
I know what you're talking about as far as stepping on the gas after not gasing it, and having it studder/jerk a bit before catching.. but mine wont pull strong even from first when i'm trying to do some spirited driving from first, just studders and hesistates up to vtec, and the low end power band is terrible lately, worse than before lol... if imaginable.
And driving consistantly if i just put the throttle in the 'right' spot and keep it steady it'll do its studdering, which sucks becuase sometimes I really need to be at that throttle spot..

I had a domestic car that did the exact same thing up to the point it blew. I know this is probably not related but in my lebaron (3.0 mitsu V6) I forgot in my teenage years to check the coolant and ended up blowing a head gasket. It was probably blown when this was happening and I didn't know it, the car had no power until all of a sudden there was a surge of power at like 5k rpm. Otherwise pure hesitation and bogging down. I guess what I'm saying is make sure it's not something more serious. That car blew up and I bought a 5th gen accord, never drive a domestic again.
