Default Walbro Problem

Hi, I've just installed a walbro 255 pump on my JDM Vtec prelude, after i had installed it i took it for a drive, went fine for a bit until it started spluttering and when i put my foot down it just goes plop plop plop and fights to accelerate! i've checked everything i've done and it looks fine.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers

its a fairly standard car, filter and exhaust, my old pump was on its way out and it was cheaper for me in the uk to get a walbro than a standard so i opted for walbro.
is the pump to powerful for such few mods?

infact i thought about the whole install over night and there was one slight difference with the oem and walbro pumps, the oem had a inch or so drop on the filter bag but the walbro had the bag directly out from the pump, could this be the problem?

I installed one on my 95 Si with minor bolt-ons and didn't have a single problem other than it's loud(which is fine with me...)

I'd go back and re-install it and make sure you follow the directions perfectly...I know mine was hard to get in the tank the right way...

Shine a flashlight in there and make sure the pump lines up with all the crap on the bottom of the tank

can you remember if your pump had a filter which stuck out straight or if it was like the oem filter and had a inch drop and the bag slopped down at about 45 degrees?
Im just wondering if i was sent the wrong fittings thats all.

Maybe you just got a bad one.

Did you reuse the stock filter from the old fuel pump? The walbro should have come with a new filter. My filter seemed like it was just a bit shorter then the OEM but it's never been a problem for me, even when I was almost out of fuel.

Listen for the pump and make sure it's at least still running.

With the car off, turn the key to the on position. The pump should prime for about 3 seconds. If you can't hear anything, then the pump is definitely dead.

Otherwise, take the thing out again and make sure everything is still connected properly. Wiring, hoses...

Here's a pic of it, which should help more than an explanation...

keep in mind THE FILTER IS ON BACKWARDS IN THIS PIC, which was the first and only problem I had....

So just make sure you followed directions and yours looks like that except the filter is on the other way...And use all the parts they give you...

yes I've seen that done before, one of my friend's put his on backwards, if it works when you have almost a full tank and stops when you're running low its probably just improper installation

are the stock injectors even big enough to support the warlbro 255?

are you using any type of fuel management?

I'm a DSM guy *ducks from flying objects* and the problem for us with the 255 is 9 times out of ten it over runs the stock fuel pressure regulator giving rediculous fuel pressure and making it inconsistent. You may need a heavy duty AFPR (read: not those useless B&M $30 chop the top units).

Another thing to think about is the voltage at the pump. If something is wrong and the pump is hardly getting any power, it's not going to work right. Check the voltage at the pump with the car idling and all acc off.

Nah. My stock fuel regulator is handling it just fine. It doesn't matter what injectors you have either. I've heard lots of people having success with these things. including myself on a completely stock system. It still may be the case here, but it would be rare. Just make sure you're not just low on fuel. My filter bag didn't reach the bottom of the tank, (Generic Walbrough kit) so I have to fill up when there's still a bar left on the electronic fuel gauge. (Gen 4)

First change the filter if you haven't done that yet.

You'll find out right away if you can get a fuel pressure tester and read what it's putting out when idling. Rev it up in neutral and read it. If there's still not enough pressure (around 36psi at idle and 45 at WOT) Check that ground wire you ran from the pump to the Pump Bracket. make sure it's a clean connection.

PS, doesn't it make you guys uneasy installing a pump that's HALF the size of the original one and an orifice thats also smaller than stock?

I know, I know, it works. It proved itself when I had the supercharger, but it still hurts to think about.
