Default VTEC Controller

I did a little searching around here and didn't find anything.

Anyhoo, I have been hearing mixed reactions on VTEC controllers. Some say good and some say waste of money. From anyone that has one or knows a thing or two about them, is it worth the money?

Well, think of it this way. Honda puts millions of dollars into research to find the best point for VTEC to engage. Why would you wanna mess with that? If your engine is heavily modified, there may be a better place for VTEC to engage, but in the average I/H/E H22, stock engagement point is the best place

honda also didn't want vtec to engage too early, otherwise u'd be in vtec more often and burning oil more ofter.

What about if I ony set it to engage at around 4000 RPMs? Would this be doing any "damage"? What about 3500 RPM?

for the love of God don't set it below 4800-4900rpms, most people find that around 5100 is a good spot with minor mods.

you clearly need to do some more reading unless you were joking about those rpms

the reason people say vtec controlers are a waste is because they are only good for a small range of modifications....to little and they are not worth it, to many heavier mods and they are not letting you tune to your full potential.

Wow, I agree...I think you should set it to engage at idle...That way you always have that VTAK y0!

you need to do a little more research on what exactly vtec is. there are reasons for vtec engaging at the right spot based on the timing of your engine. understanding the basic principles of vtec will help you out alot in determining whether you should significantly lower the engagement point or not. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/question229.htm is a great link to start out if you want to educate yourself.

my vtec kicks in at 5900, which i think is way to late. i want it at 5100-5200. Will i need a vafc to adjust the fuel and air at that rpm or can i just buy like a buddy club where it just sets the vtec timing?

My engages at the stock 5200 I want to try it at 5000 just to see. I read some where that If you tune your car, it is good to have vtec engage so that you do not feel a big kick meaning you have a smoother poerband. Is this correct? I would rather it be that way, have almost the same amout of hp before vtec and just have a small increase.

yah, you want a smooth transition. my ecu is tunned for a fully built jun h22a. which is why mine kicks at 5900. i would want my vtec to kick in at 5000.
