So heres my problem i was hoping you guys could help me with:
My 2000 prelude base is throwing a CEL. I checked the code and its an EGR issue. I did a search and found a bunch of threads about people with the same issue and the solution was to clean out the egr ports.
Now I dont have the tools needed and am not comfortable doing this myself (the whole tapping the ports sounds a bit out of my league) and will have to wait till the end of the year to have it fixed.
My question was, is there any way i can just turn off that annoying check engine light. I know I need to have it fixed, and I plan on doing that soon, but that light drives me insane. The biggest issue is the people I carpool with for work have been giving me some grief for it, and if I could just disable it till I have it fixed it would solve a lot of issues for me.
Is there any bulb that i can pull out or any wire that i can undo to have that thing not come on?
I know this is not a smart idea, but at this point I really dont have any options. The folks I carpool with have been very uptight and said they refuse to ride in a car with a CEL. I know its just an egr issue which will give me worse gas mileage and performance, but as far as I know theres no safety hazzard. I just need to find a way to have it turned off for a couple of weeks till i can have it sorted out for good.
Any ideas or input here would be awesome and much appreciated.

You would have to remove the gauge cluster from the dash and remove the little bulb from the backside, don't lose or break the bulb cause they're expensive. A bit too much of a hassle to do all that just to shut some people up that don't really know what they're looking at IMO.

 

Do the ghetto thing, stick a piece of paper over the light.
