Default trouble shoot problem

my lude recently died on me while i was driving on the highway. . . .the first thing that happened was i started losing power(stepping on the pedal didnt make it pick up fast anymore). then as i was exiting and put it on neutral, the engine just shuts off on me. . .i pulled over to the side and then i couldnt start the car anymore. it has been about 2 weeks now. . . at first i thought it was an ignition problem, so i changed spark plug wires, spark plugs, ignition coil, and the distributor. used a whole lotta money too. . and it still wont start up. . .can anyone tell me what could be the problem with my car???

Ok, so you changed all of that stuff and it still isn't getting spark?

Could possibily be the Ignitor in the distributor itself.

Any CEL codes?

Did you change out the whole distributor? or just the distributor cap and rotor.

+1 for ignitor

but, he didnt say he wasnt getting spark, just that it wont start. you need to check for spark, fuel and timing. do you hear the fuel pump kick on when you turn the key two clicks (not start, just so the lights come on)? take the distributor cap off and have someone crank the engine. if the distributor rotor doesnt spin, the timing belt may have broken.

good luck and give more info so we can help

Have you tested your alternator? Have you tried a new battery? Your alternator could have died thus your battery draining. Put in a good known battery and see if it starts. If it does pull the negative battery cable while its on, if the car dies out your alternator kicked the bucket. You could also take your alternator to you local discound or autozone and they will test it free.

Most of the time when you change the distributor it will NOT come with
the Ignitor. Are you saying you purchased an Ignitor as well and installed
both of them at the same time?

I had a drained battery once that would turn the motor over but it just didnt have enough juice to start the motor. Do what i said, it will cost nothing and it will eliminate those two posibilities. But then again its your time and car.

Something similar happend to me before. i was speeding up to get to a exit off the freeway and i lost power just as i was exiting. as i put it in neutral and came to a stop it shutoff. i tried starting it but it would not start. long story short it ended up being my timing belt. thankfully i didnt have any damage. so i suggest maybe you may want to check that out. hope that helps. good luck.
