Default Transmission Experts

Hey, I finished rebuilding my transmission, and everythings back together, though i havent sealed it yet. I had some questions to anyone that has taken their tranny's apart before.

Are all the gears supposed to line up perfectly? My 5th gear on my mainshaft is a little bit higher than the 5th gear on the countershaft. I think this is how it should be because even in the helms manual it shows a bigger gap inbetween 4th and 5th on the mainshaft than 4th and 5th on the countershaft, so it would have to be that way...

also the little nub that comes through the L part of the reverse shift fork, when i dont have the reverse shift fork tightened down all the way, the nub comes through completely. but when i have it tightened down the shift fork comes out a little bit so only the very end of the nub is in the little L track. is this how it's supposed to be?

that's all i can think of right now, i can post pics if anyone needs em.

thanks

i have never gone inside my prelude transmission but on my old sentra transmission and my dads maxima (both 5spds) the gears lined up flush....so i would assume yours should too. i mean think about it, all that gear thats not contacting anything is just dead weight, honda engineers their tolerances better than that.

That looks fine to me. There is a spring washer on the mainshaft by the clutch housing. Make sure that is in place and facing the right way. As you assemble the tranny, the alignment of those shafts will change some. If you are replacing parts on the main or countershafts you need to check the clearances again. Refer to the helm. If you have not replaced any parts on those shafts, just make sure you put it back together the way it came appart. Again, refer to the helm for assembly.

As soon as you put the casing back together, push the mainshaft inward until you hear it "snap" in place. then check to make sure the "C" clip (on the opposite side) that holds the shaft in plase is seated properly. This movement will line up your gears, which answers your first question.

I am not sure what you are refering to in the second question. can you post another pic?
