tranny help quick
i have my manual tranny out and i'm trying to seperate the trans housing from the clutch housing. can this be done without removing the shift arm assembly from the trans housing? in the helms, they take the shift arm assembly apart and if i don't have to i really would rather not deal with all the springs and other mechanics of the assembly.
i can seperate them by about an inch, but something is keeping the clutch housing on and i'm not sure what. anyone who has had their tranny apart, please help!

tranny is already out, and now i've taken off the shift assembly, now im deciding which should be on the bottom when i seperate, clutch or tranny housing
alright, i've been trying to seperate those housings for 4 hours now, i've done every step in the helms up to where, you remove the 32mm bolt on the top (if the whole assembly is sitting up on the clutch housing) after you remove the bolt pry open the snap ring out of the groove. i'm not sure the purpose of this step, but i pried apart the ring and i can only get the housings an inch apart. help anyone?
A little experience here. Have you removed the hollow bolts with the springs and detent *****? Have you removed the bolt (14mm) that goes through the reverse idler gear shaft? After this, you have to release the snap ring underneath the 32mm, with a pair of snap ring pliers. This you have to hold open to remove it. The top side should be the cover, the one you took the 32mm out of. This is all I can think of that would be holding you back.

yes, i removed the bolts with springs and detent ***** and the 14mm holding the reverse idler gear, which is actually laying sideways in the tranny now. i have the snap ring seperated, but i still can't remove the cover. should the snap ring let the main shaft loose? because the main shaft still wants to come with the cover.

snap ring holds the countershaft on, do you have the reverse sensor out as well? do you see the countershaft dropping at all from the snap ring? if not, keep trying to pry the snap ring apart from the grove in that bearing..
thanks for the help, finally got it apart. i had to toss the ring tool and take two screw drivers and pry apart the snap ring, then the shaft finally came loose and it slid right off.
now i'm at my next dilema. how do i get the gears off the old diff? the big ring gear will be easy, but i'm not sure about the two gears/bearings on the ends. any suggestions?
