Default tranny cable

i have a 98 5spd prelude and when i put it in 1st 3rd and 5th it feels ,m like it goes up futher that it is supposed too and it feels really soft. i removed my center arm rest and i found that the around the cable linkage thats bolt onto the stickshift has part with little teeth and it looks like it is busted

does anyone know what this part is and if i can install it myself

i looks like whenever i push it up into 1st 3rd and 5th gear that the teeth around the cable linkage are't stoping it from traveling up too far im not sure and i cant relax until i know what i should do

i think one of the teeth is missing

It happend after i slamed it into 3rd gear

After ward is feel really mushy when it goes in 1st 3rd and 5th but 2nd and 4th and reverse are fine

what are the "teeth" you are talking about? i have taken my center console off and looked around at my linkage before and i din't notice anything that looked like "teeth", unless you're talking about the threads that you use to adjust the cables. do you notice a lot more freeplay in the shift arm in neutral or in gear? i would check that everything is bolted down tight and the cables are the lengths recommended by honda. oh and check where the cables attach to the tranny, someting could be loose there too.
