Default timing question

my friend has a H23A prelude, boosted. driving along the highway his timing belt popped off the cam gears and snapped. he got adjustable cam gears, put them on, put the timing belt on. made sure everythign was TDC and lined up the lines on the cam gears to base timing. car wont start, it cranks real slow and every third crank a poofff comes out of the muffler, but real low. any ideas what could be the problem. searched and found nothing usefull. if theres anything im missing that would make this easier to help with lemme know and i will find out. thanks ALOT guys.

Did you check to see if the valves were bent?

Do a leakdown test if you can.

that is the biggest thing right there. a constant like that tells you something is bad inside.

my guess is that on one of the strokes you are getting blow by on one of the valves. sounds like its time for a built head

in this case a compression test might be your best friend...and say a little prayer that the valves and piston didn't slap a high five with each other

yea, i thought that too concidering the timing is on, its at TDC and it still wont crank. my guess was valves bent into pretzels haha, but on a seriouse note. pull the head and get it checked by a machine shop eh?

always do the easy things first.

compression test. if you come out shitty then pull the head. check the valves. if there is any noticable damage to any of the parts i would take it to a machine shop and see if the head is salvagable. most likely is, just needs new components.
