Default Tapping lifters???

just within the last few days, i have noticed that when i am driving it around, and i leave it in second gear, lets say, at about 3000-4k rpm, the motor taps pretty loud, it sounds like the lifters, but it never did that b4. i change the motor oil every 3k miles and use 5w-30 mobil 1. this happened to anyone else?? lifters??

I thought I had loud lifters until it went in for another problem...turned out I had 3 bad and one very bad rod bearing. 118k, autocrossed since about 70k. Replaced rod and main bearings, and it's quiet now.

5 months ago my dad told me my lifters sounded like they were getting high, 5 months later I threw a bearing and broke a rod. =x

I think I have the same problem. I can hear it only at 3000-3300 as the motor mutes it out. Its really noticable if im driving next to a wall.

ok man, this is gonna scare the **** out of your, I have the exact same problem with my 98 base model. When ever it idled, it sounded like the lifters were tapping against the valve cover, and for the longest time I though that I just needed a valve adj. So whenever I got around to doing the valve adj., I pulled the valve cover off and bamp....the rockerarms were cutting a grove into my cams. I fuc%ed freaked out. I had to replace all 8 rocker arms ($1,000 @ cost from honda) and both cams. My mechanic said that the cause was from lack of oil or the valve lash was set way too loose. Well thats my story and I hope that it doesn't end like mine did....good luck to u man

I really should edit my story and add in the fact that my dad only worked on domestics his whole life, and what he told me is "it sounds like your lifters are getting high" then 5 months later a thrown bearing and a broken rod. Not to confuse with "your lifters ARE getting high". Just thought id clear that up for all the smartasses ;D

I think they mean rocker arms
Lost motion assemblies can make a tapping noise as well.

on your guys' cars, is the tapping significantly louder when the car is in load at low rpm? (going up a hill in 5th gear)

just wondering because my car is tapping like crazy and taps much loader under load. maybe i'll take my cover off too.

mine was only noticeable under idle, although the sound might have been hidden underneath my really loud short ram intake -_-

i have a loud exhaust and a short ram and under load the tapping drowns out the intake and almost the exhaust. it's quiet any other time.
