tachometer uncalibrating itself
seems like the tach likes to keep its self on its on settings, a while ago, I could rev to where it shows about 8100-8300rpm before the limiter stops it.
then I found out what rpm the car is supposed to be at at certain mph, and had it calibrated PERFECT showed the right rpm for every speed and rev limiter kicked in right when it should, I called it a done project.
Now I am having the same problem, and it seems it is in the exact same place as it was before at 70mph in 5th, it shows about 4600rpm, which is way off.
I have a 94 VTEC prelude, does anybody know how to stop this?

I have somewhat of a similar problem. My tach is way off from where its supposed to be. at idle it reads 2k and im like wtf because the vafc reads like 800-900. Anybody know how to fix this.
i actually bought a VAFC off of here for my lil project and hooked up everything for Vtec and tach but not for the AFC part. the tach on it shows the OE tach is extremely confused. i dont know what to do but leave the VAFC hooked up to get a correct reading.
there are adjustment ***** on the EL gauges for the tach and speedo. They are white plastic phillips head ***** located on the side and back of the gauges.. Enough of an answer? NON-EL I have no idea...

here are some pics of my junkyard el gauges, they have all the plastic taken off, but other than that they are complete
here are the calibration screws for the speedo (right above the speedo if you are looking at the face of the gauges)

and the ones for the tach (to the left of the tach if you are looking at the face of the gauges)

I had everything calibrated on my actual gauges, but for some reason, it keeps changing itself back to how it was before

GPS would be helpful I think

all you do is turn those white screws with a philips head screw driver, you'll be able to see which one does what once you start messing with it
I had my dad drive the car, with the gauges out of the dash, but still hooked up
I was holding the gps and calibrating everything while he set it on cruise control... its very hard to do, but doesnt take that long.
I had some problems with the speedo though, I could calibrate it at high speeds (60-80) and it would be 100% accurate from 40+ but everything below that is exactly 5mph too fast, I couldnt find a way to get everything perfect. I just left it alone so I know how to judge my speed (shows 15, im actually going 20) not too hard
hope that helped
I still dont know why my tach keeps uncalibrating though, does anyone have a way to solve this?

I also have the same problem, I've been told a VAFC is more accruaie since
it is wired straight to the ECU, I have friends who just put it right in front of the tach. but have not tried yet.

You need to realize that with analog gauges you're not going to get 100% accuracy all across the board. Most gauges are made to be accurate 20 to 80% of its full range; don't try to get more out of it.
