Steering arm problem
I have heard a thumping/ clicking/ not right noise from the left front of my 97 SH. I investigated and it seems the arm has play in the box/rack/ gear. the hub will move towards and away from the gear (rack whatever you techie ppl call it) but the steering wheel doesnt move. The hub will however not move up and down. so that rules out ball joints.
OKay so my question is this. What parts could it be that are bad? Would it be the steering arm itself, the thing that connects it to the gearbox or the $800 gear box itself?

did you check and make sure its not the axle first, does it only do it when you are turning?
i have never heard of a rack going bad in a prelude, so im thinkin thats kinda unlikely, maybe just a new tie rod end....

I have the exact same prob on my '97 civic. I've been searching for a steering assembly diagram but have had no luck so far. Most likely the problem is a worn location bush but I'd like to be certain. Do you also feel some slight vibrations/heavy steering or slightly more vigorous vibration during braking? All this occurs due to loss of steering tracking because of the loose play in the steering system. If anyone knows anything or has any Honda steering assembly diagrams please let me know, I'd highly appreciate it!!
