Starting Problems...
Ok last week I jump in my 4th gen Si and turn the key... all the beepers beep and dummy lights light up... my stereo comes on... but when I turn it to the next notch to start it... nothing
. So immediately a million things run through my head... so I turn it off and try again... starts right up. I just told myself I forgot the push the clutch down or I didn't push it far enough. So it goes a few days and it happens again. This time I know for sure I did everything right. So again I immediately try again and it fires right up. Now it has been doing it on and off for the last few days... What do you think it is??? Dead spot in the starter?? Solenoid going bad?? I know it's nothing to do with the battery or anything... Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

check your battery terminals first, make sure they are tight. If they are loose you could still get juice to electronics but not enough for the starter. Other wise could be your ignition switch, the clutch cutoff (dont know the real name), or something w/the starter check the wires to the starter to make sure they are tight.
I have to go with 714 on this one. My winter car was doing the same thing. I cleaned the battery and terminals and it still did the same thing. So I sliced the insulation on the wiring a little and noticed corrosion on the wire. So I had to replace the pos and neg wires to eliminate the problem. It only cost around $20.
Good luck!!!!!!
Good luck!!!!!!
I had the same problem you are talkin bout. But, it was on my 5th gen.
It's actually a recall in the ignition, something to the effect of the contacts in the ignition aren't making contact.
Some ludes, even turned off on the freeway, thank god never happened to me..
Not sure if it is an issue w/4th gens, but you might wanna check
if so it is replaced for free

Hmm.. You get all the dummy lights when the key is in the "ON" position right?.. You try and crank her over and nothing..
When you say nothing do you mean nothing.. Did you hear a CLICK from the Starter Solenoid??..
If not then your problem is in the first circuit of the Starting Circuit..
I can tell you that it's probably not your battery. But you can check the voltage on that.. But if it was your battery, you wouldn't be able to listen to the radio and have your dome lights on and etc.. That's because I believe that your radio probably draws more than 40amps. And if it doesn't then, check your battery again..
But anyways.. If I turned the key and there was no sound coming from the Starter Solenoid and the Starter itself, I'd check for power at the Solenoid.. I'd check to make sure that the Ign Switch is feeding power to the "S" terminal on the Solenoid. It's the terminal with the small wire attached to it. If you don't have power there, it could be your Neutral Safety Switch or Ign Switch.. I'd then test the Neutral Safety Switch or Ign Switch..
But that's probably not your problem.. Next I'd Ohm Check the Pull In and Hold In Coils.. And if they both checked good.. I would have to say that there is an Open in the Starter and I'd pull the Starter and take a look at it..
Hope that helps a little..
